Dear Google Ads API Team, We already have basic access to the Google Ads API, but we did not request App Conversion and Remarketing permissions. If we want to query the channel attribution result for a specific user through the API, should we apply for these additional permissions (App Conversion and Remarketing)? Also, if we apply, will our existing basic access be affected in any way? Please let me know if you need any additional information. Thanks for your help. Best regards, Derek

Hi,

Thank you for reaching out to the Google Ads API support team.

I understand that you have obtained basic access for Google Ads API and trying to know whether existing basic access is affected if you did not request App Conversion and Remarketing permissions. Since the access requests are handled by the Google Ads API Compliance team, I would recommend you reaching out to the Google Ads API Compliance team as they are better equipped to address your concerns.

Please note that our team can only assist with the technical queries or concerns related to the Google Ads API.

Thanks,

Hi,

Thank you very much for your response. We have recently reached out to the Google Ads API Compliance team, and they advised us to post a question in the forum. I am a bit uncertain about the appropriate team to contact, and would greatly appreciate your guidance on the proper channel.

Attached is a screenshot of the reply we received from the Google Ads API Compliance team.

Best wishes,
Derek

Hi Derek,

A developer token is what allows you to use the Google Ads API. A token with basic access lets you use most of the Google Ads API, including reporting and campaign management features. This is the standard, all-purpose key. A token with App Conversion Tracking and Remarketing API access is a specialized key. It's designed for a very specific purpose and does not give you access to reporting or campaign management. I would recommend you to refer to this documentation for more detailed information.

This means you can't use a single token for both purposes. Here are your options, depending on your needs:
  • If you want to use reporting and campaign management, and potentially other general Google Ads API features: You can use your existing developer token, since it already has basic access. There's no need to apply for anything else for these specific functions.
  • If you only want to use the App Conversion Tracking and Remarketing API, and nothing else: You can use your current developer token. You'll need to apply specifically for the App Conversion Tracking and Remarketing API functionality.
  • If you need to use both the general API features (like reporting) and the App Conversion Tracking and Remarketing API: You must create a separate Google Ads Manager account and apply for a new developer token for that account and apply for the basic access application form where you need to select the 10th question as 'Yes'. This new token will be specifically for the specialized App Conversion Tracking and Remarketing functionality.
I hope this clarifies.

Thanks,
