Hello,

Currently I have created a manager account with the pourpose of testing how the API works. I do not know if my manager account is a test account or not, since there's no red label next to my profile photo on my Google Ads panel, and when I access Tools and Settings > API Central I see my developer token access is active for "access to the test account" and my Level of Access is "Test account". So I am lost to where I'll be billed or not because the panel is abiguous for me.

Also, I don't know how to create a test account associated with my manager account and I haven't been able to find the API documentation.

To be honest, I am quite lost with all this process. Many of the links I click within Google's docs for the Ads API take me to my panel instead of a useful page where I can actually take action, and I am not taking into account that sometimes you're redirected to the AdWords, what makes things even harder.

I appreciate any help in how to set up my development/test environment for using the API.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi,

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Ads API Forum.

Kindly note that if you don't see the red Test account label on your Google Ads account page, then the account is a production account.

You may follow the below steps to create a test manager account, a test client account, and a few campaigns to populate the test client account. Note that "client" here refers to a Google Ads client account, not your client app.

  1. Create a test manager account (Select NEW GOOGLE ADS ACCOUNT and then name the new account something like test-m...@mycompany.example.com). To create a test account, you must have a Google account that is not already linked to your production manager account. Create a new Google account.
  2. While signed in to your test manager account, create a test client account. Any client accounts you create from your test manager account are automatically test accounts. You may create the test account and test client account programmatically via API.
  3. Create a few test campaigns under the test client account in the Google Ads UI.
  4. Take note of the client customer ID for the new test client account, and save it. You'll need this to make API calls later.

Let me know if this above helps, or provide the documentation references where you think it’s harder to understand.

Regards,
