Google Ads API returns data for campaign IDs that dont exist in our account

The API is syncing down data for campaign IDs that dont exist in the account. 

There are multiple campaign IDs that the API shows data for that are not included in the "Campaign ID" column in the Campaigns view within the https://ads.google.com/aw/campaigns UI. There are no removed campaigns in the account, and there are no other filters applied in the UI. All campaigns are showing in the view.

These additional campaign IDs from the API also do not show in the Report Editor when viewing performance by Campaign ID.

Why would the API return data for campaign IDs that dont exist in our account?

Based on the information provided, I understand that Google Ads API is returning data for campaign IDs that don't exist in your account. Kindly note that Google Ads API will not retrieve any such wrong information data as you mentioned rather it will retrieve only the data of whatever is present in your Google Ads account. Kindly note that you haven't provided your Google Ads account ID in order to check from our end. In order to investigate your issue further, kindly provide us with the GAQL query and the complete API logs (request and response logs with request-id and request header) generated at your end and uncropped UI screenshot of the Google Ads account (with visible customer ID) by highlighting the campaign IDs to further assist you better. 

If you are using a client library and haven't enabled the logging yet, I would request you to enable logging for the specific client library that you are using. You can refer to the guides Java, .Net, PHP, Python, Ruby or Perl to enable logging at your end. For REST interface requests, you can enable logging via the curl command by using the -i flag.
