Hi,

We are seeing a HUGE difference in the number of QPS we can perform reading search volumes using Ads API vs our old Adwords API implementation.

We are not interested in managing ads campaigns or actually pushing ads out / campaigns etc...... just fetching the google search volumes (and CPC, etc.) for keywords. (using KeywordPlanIdeaService).

We used to be able to do this realtime for 1000s of keywords, now we can get... maybe... 4 per second?!

Is this known / deliberate, or have we made an error somewhere.

Thanks
Matt

We also seem unable to get the search volumes without also retrieving a list of suggestions for the input keyword - which is different, perhaps related?

To improve matter, I have just tried batching the requests across our searches, but can only supply 20 keywords at a time, any more and the API errors out with "The input has an invalid value".

We are using the API: KeywordPlanIdeas.GenerateKeywordIdeas

Is this the correct API to retrieve search volumes, maybe we are using the wrong API for this use case?

Hi Matthew,

Thank you for reaching out.

As per this guide, planning services requests regardless of developer token access level are limited. More information on its limits can be found here.

Since you mentioned search volume, you may try out the GenerateHistoricalMetrics (Approximate monthly search volume (per month)) feature as well.

Best regards,

Hi Peter,

Well my question remains - the current ratelimit is too small to use this API in a scalable 3rd party product.
Are search-volumes going away as a feature one can leverage to build a product with more than a handful of users?

(We use search volumes as part of our product in evaluating ideas for youtube videos, i.e. are people interested in a topic - we have >100k users and therefore 60 requests per second with a max 20 keywords / request isn't going to work)

I need to know so we can plan, and this is a major change to the old adwords API.

Hi Matthew,

Thank you for your follow up questions.

Unfortunately, due to the cost of the said planning services requests, the requests that can be made are only limited to the rate mentioned here. Also, from the earlier guide I provided, the recommendation is that :

Our recommendation is to cache or store results as you will receive the same response over a long time span. For example, if you request a set of existing keywords, the response is not going to change over a period of hours or days. In the case of historical metrics, the statistics refresh monthly.
