Hello,

I notice that Google Ads API started to support Smart Campaign queries.

During the Smart Campaign setup, the first step is to ask "What action do you most want customers to take". This is similar to the optimization goal settings for regular campaigns.

However, the value of Smart Campaigns in the query of
campaign.optimization_goal_setting.optimization_goal_types always returns UNKNOWN. I do not find any related field in smart_campaign_setting, either.

Is there any field available that I can query the "action" settings for smart campaigns?

Thanks,
Gavin

Hello,

Can someone from Google Ads API help with this API question?

Thanks,
Gavin

Hi Gavin,

Thank you for reaching out.

The smart setting "action" you are looking for does not appear to be available at the moment. In this guide you can find the settings that are possible currently in the API.

That said, so I can pass a feature request to our team, could you share the complete Google Ads UI screenshot where the said "action" setting can be viewed? You may send the requested information using the Reply privately to author option, or directly to our googleadsa...@google.com alias instead.

Best regards,

Hi, Peter,

Thanks for your reply.

Regarding the screenshots, here is the screen to set this "action" preference:

If one clicks continue and then clicks back, they will see this page instead to set the same thing:

I do not find a page that can view this option once a Smart Campaign is created. However, the number of items in the performance card in the campaign home screen in Google Ads UI seems to be related to the option value. Below is an example that has 5 items in the performance card. I have other smart campaigns which have 3 or 4 items.

Please keep me posted if you get any response from the feature team regarding the future plans to support querying the action/goal setting.

Thanks,
Gavin

Hi Gavin,

Thank you for the response. In looking over this, I also saw this document which talks about some of the data that can be pulled from the smart campaign. At the same time I will bring this to our team to see if they can add a feature so as to bring it more in line with what you see with the campaign setup. Also I see that you said you have created other smart campaigns, and they seem to be ok? Have you seen anything different in how you set this one up versus the other 2?

Hello, William,

Thanks for the response.

For clarification, I do not have any issue with any smart campaigns. And the campaigns that I created are in test accounts so they won't perform, which I am fine with. I was asking for the feature to get the "action" setting advertisers provide during Smart Campaign setup from the Google Ads API and hopefully this is the feature request you are bringing to the API team.

HI Gavin,

Thank you for providing further details to your concern.

This section of the UI for creating smart campaign appears to be not supported yet in Google Ads API. With this, allow to create a feature request for this section of the UI, subject for review.

For now, please follow our blog to receive updates and new releases about Google Ads API.
