We recently started noticing in our production (201101 api) that deleted text ads metric are not coming down in 7 days AD_PERFORMANCE_REPORT, we dont explicitly mention any predicates during report definition other than greater than zero impression and we were getting deleted text ads metric about a week ago in production. Did default behavior for these reports change in 201101? Do we now have to explicitly ask for these metrics of deleted text ads? If it did is it also going to be same behavior in 201109? Do these also apply for KEYWORD or PLACEMENT performance report?

Please advise.

Thanks.

Hi Tejesh,

My understanding was that the report always behaved this way, which is how the AdGroupAdService also behaves.  You will need to add a predicate for Status IN (ENABLED, PAUSED, DISABLED) to retrieve all ads.

Eric... I know I already replied in my own thread, but just to reiterate... The reports did NOT always behave this way, there was definitely a change on January 25th that changed the default functionality of the predicates for this report.

Tajesh... In any case, Eric is right that if you add the predicates for AdGroupStatus, CampaignStatus and Status, you will begin getting all of the data again.

To follow up on Tejesh's question... Does the Keyword Report have the same issues too now??? Or are all other reports affected?

I've also seen this issue appear, and it's only a very recent change. We have NEVER specified a list of statuses for downloading AD_PERFORMANCE_REPORT reports, and have always downloaded reporting data for all ads.

This needs to be changed back to the old behaviour, as a matter of priority. Further, the number of changes to a supposedely STABLE production system recently is quite alarming.

I agree with you 100%, dkasak.  The fact that it seems a lot of us are having the same issue since more or less last Thursday is pretty alarming.  Considering we are all supposed to move to this prior to the end of February it's pretty damn scary.  When it breaks for no reason and we are trying to now use this API for production systems it basically puts all of us consuming these API's in a bad light and scrambling to figure out what we did wrong.  But honestly no one has addressed that issue that it in fact did change because prior to last week consumers of the API didn't need to include predicates to get the same data back.

Hi All,

My apologies, looking in to the issue further it appears that while the AdGroupAdService always had this behavior, up until recently the AD_PERFORMANCE_REPORT did return DISABLED ads by default.  I apologize for this sudden and unannounced change and I am working with the core engineering team to find a resolution.  In the mean time you can ensure that all ads are returned by adding a predicate for Status IN (ENABLED, PAUSED, DISABLED).

- Eric

Thanks for replying Eric.  Do we need to do this for the other reports as well and is this going to be how we should do it going forward?

Hi Peter,

This change should only have affected the AD_PERFORMANCE_REPORT, but let us know if you see otherwise.  The current plan is to revert the change and restore the old behavior.  We hope to have that out in production early next week.

- Eric

Hello Eric

Will you let us know when that old behaviour is restored?  Do you
think that adding the predicates on ad status for the
AD_PERFORMANCE_REPORT should make any significant impact on the time
taken to get the report?

Thanks
Susan

Hi Susan,

As mentioned, we are hoping to have the change live early next week.  Adding the predicate will have no impact on the performance of the report.

- Eric

Hi Eric,
I have the same issue when I run reports manually.

Will you restore metrics for DELETED ads also for users not using APIs?

Thanks
Lorenzo

Just for clarity, don't use DELETED as the predicate, use DISABLED on ads to get this to work.  Please post when a fix is released.  Thanks

Hi All,

The fix for this issue is now live, and DISABLED ads should again be returned by default in AD_PERFORMANCE_REPORTs.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for letting us know that the fix is live.  Should we plan that in the future we will have to specify to receive disabled ads or will the report return all statuses on an ongoing basis?   My preference is that the report continues to return disabled ads in order to keep my reporting code flexible and not have to maintain various statuses.

Thank you.

Regards,
Ursula K.

Hi Ursula,

For v201109 reports the behavior should stay the same.  We may change the behavior in a future version of the API.

- Eric

Hi Eric
manual reports still return only PAUSED and ENABLED ads data, but not DISABLED

Would you know by any chance if we should expect a fix for manual reports as well?

Thanks a lot,
Lorenzo

Hi Lorenzo,

By manual do you mean the AdWords web interface?  If so I'm not sure, and you'll need to ask that question on the general AdWords forum.

- Eric

I Eric, yes that's what i meant - regular Adwords web interface.

I searched for this issue and found a conversation about it only on your forum, that's why I asked.

Ok, I will open a new one in the general Adwords section, then.

Thanks
Lorenzo
