Hello!
I'm Stav, a BI developer and a product manager at yellowHEAD.

I'm trying to extract data for Gmail ads (under Web Display campaigns) using the Google Ads API, in order to present a clickable image of these ads in Data Studio, so that I'll be able to show a preview of the image that directs you to the image URL when you click on it.

I wasn't able to find an image URL for these ads in the ad_group_ad
and media_file reports, although for other ad types I was able to find it there.

the URL should look like this: https://tpc.googlesyndication.com/simgad/8844657453980069611 (I took one of my images and changed the order of the digits)

Does anyone know how I can extract it? Or parts of it?
Thanks!

Hi Stav,

Thank you for reaching out.

The image URL is not available in the GmailAd. What you should be able to retrieve is its product_images information that should contain details such as product_image and description.

That said, allow me to create a feature request, subject for review, regarding your inquiry. For now, you may follow our blog for any updates or announcements.

Best regards,

Hi,

Thank you for your help.

I’d like to ask one more question – maybe the suffix of the URL can be extracted somehow? In the example I used in the first email, https://tpc.googlesyndication.com/simgad/8844657453980069611, I’m referring to the suffix: 8844657453980069611.

In other platforms I connected to my product to it was sometimes discovered to be a file name or some kind of ID.

Thank you, and have a great week!

Stav

Hi Stav,

Could you provide more details as to what the said suffix (8844657453980069611) represents? As of now, all available information for your Gmail Ads are contained in the GmailAdInfo object.

Thanks,

Hi,

  1. I’m not sure what this suffix represents – usually it’s a file name or some ID, but I can’t really find any matching values in the data. I was hoping you might know.
  2. Do the product_images[] and product_videos[] fields in the GmailAdInfo object contain the URL I’m looking for? Extracting this report would require some development from our side so I’d like to make sure the values I’m looking for will be found there.

Thank you very much,

Hi Stav,

For your first question, our team unfortunately would not be able to determine what the suffix represents based on the URL you have provided.

As for your second question, the said product_images[] and product_videos[] fields should contain the the MediaFile resource name of the product image and the resource name of a video, respectively.

That said, you may also try and use the MediaFileService and refer to the image's resource name and retrieve its corresponding source_url field. You may note that this field is only used for media of type AUDIO and IMAGE.

Let me know if this helps.
