Hi team,

We were previously using Google Ads API v17 to upload CRM-based audience lists, where we set the membership lifespan to 10,000 days. Since v17 is deprecated, we've started testing with v20, and we've noticed that the maximum allowed lifespan now appears to be 540 days.

I have a few questions regarding this change:

 Existing Lists:
What happens to the user lists that were created in v17 with a 10,000-day lifespan?
Will they automatically be reduced to 540 days?
Or will they retain their original lifespan?

New Lists in v20:
Is there any way to set a lifespan longer than 540 days for CRM-based lists in v20?

Refreshing Lists:
If we create a user list with a 540-day lifespan and refresh it next month by uploading additional user data:
Will the entire list's lifespan reset from the new upload date
Or wiill only the newly added users have their 540-day lifespan start from the new ingestion date?

Would appreciate any clarification and thanks in advance

Hi,

Thank you for reaching out to the Google Ads API support team.

Please find the following answers to your questions:

Existing Lists:

Starting from April 7, existing lists configured to have no membership expiration set or membership expiration greater than 540 days will be updated to use the maximum membership duration of 540 days, and a membership duration of 540 days will be retroactively applied to all those existing members that have a longer duration.

New Lists in v20:

In Google Ads API v20, it's not possible to set membership_life_span over 540 days. Any attempt to set greater than 540 will return a RangeError.TOO_HIGH error.

Refreshing Lists:

Refresh your Customer Match list before April 7, 2025 to renew memberships or replace the expired Customer Match lists with up-to-date lists to ensure that your ad campaigns are not interrupted.

With a set membership duration, you will need to start refreshing your list regularly by re-uploading customer data to your lists. If you do not, the list size will get smaller over time. You can learn more about Customer Match in this article.

Additionally, you may find more details in this customer match document and blog post

Thanks,

Hi,
I have a another question regarding Customer Match user lists and the 540-day membership lifespan:

If we create a user list with a 540-day lifespan and then refresh it next month by uploading additional user data:

Will the entire user list's lifespan reset from the new upload date?

Or will only the newly added or re-uploaded users have their 540-day lifespan start from the new ingestion date?

Also, since the lifespan is applied at the user level, is the only way to refresh existing users by re-uploading them before they expire (e.g., every 500 days)? Or is there any other method to extend their membership without re-uploading?

Appreciate your clarification on this!

Yes, if you add new user data the entire lifespan will reset from the new upload

The customer Match lists have a maximum membership duration of 540 days. Any list memberships added or refreshed more than 540 days ago will no longer be eligible. To stay eligible, a list must have at least 100 members added or updated within the last 540 days. We recommend regularly refreshing your Customer Match lists.

Thanks,
