Hello Team,

While working in the Keywords section (Campaign → Keywords), I noticed different options available:

  • Keywords

  • Negative keywords

  • URL inclusions

  • URL exclusions

Could you please clarify:

  1. Which campaign types (e.g., Search, Display, Performance Max, etc.) support these options?

  2. Which ad group types (e.g., Responsive Search Ads, Responsive Display Ads, etc.) can use these options?

  3. For each supported campaign/ad group type, can these be set using the CampaignCriteria or AdGroupCriteria resources in the API?

This will help us implement the correct targeting logic for each campaign type.

Thanks

Hi,

Thank you for contacting the Google Ads API support team.

Each campaign targets a specific AdvertisingChannelType (found on the Campaign object) to define its campaign type. Refer to the campaign types documentation for more information.

Yes, you can use the CampaignCriterionService, AdGroupCriterionService, and CustomerNegativeCriterionService to support the targeting via the API. You can refer to the Criteria API documentation for more information.

I hope it helps. Kindly get back to us if you have any further questions or concerns related to the Google Ads API.

Thanks,
