Geo performance report countries list

Hi,

Using the API (version 201209) I'm downloading geo performance report with the "CountryCriteriaId" field selected.

The returned value is the country name (although the documentation says it's an integer), but some of the countries I get do not exist at all in your system codes appendix (https://developers.google.com/adwords/api/docs/appendix/geotargeting)

Just a few examples are Iran, Myanmar, and there are others...

It's impossible for me to match a country name to a country code (in my system) if I can't get the code from the API directly, nor have the correct mapping between country name and country code (since the appendix is not complete)

How can I address this issue? Do you plan on adding a country code field to the API, or at least update the appendix?

Hi,

  The Geo performance report tells you how your performance is in various geographic regions.  The geotargeting appendix lists all the targetable locations.  In this case, Iran and Myanmar are not targetable - you can't target them via the UI either.

In that case, where can I find the full list of country codes + country names?

As I said, I need to match the this report to a country code in our system, and I need the actual country names used by Google.

Is it available somewhere?

I don't believe we have any documentation on the API side for the country list.  If its not targetable, it's not in the API docs.  The AdWords product docs may have such a list - I'm not familiar with one.  We're showing the same data that the AdWords product shows - I would assume this uses fairly standard country names (the english versions, presumably).

I understand, the problem is what are the "standard" country names? Since the API returned "Iran" (previous example), but in our system it's "Iran, Islamic Republic of" (as listed here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-1)

All I need is a way to map the country names Google uses to the country codes.

Can't you pull the full list of country code + country name from somewhere?

Do you mean the list of country targets? Those can be obtained by filtering the Geo Targets Table and downloading the results.

As mentioned above - the geo targets table does not contain all countries that I get when pulling a geo performance report (examples - Iran and Myanmar)

I was just wondering if this resource is available somewhere.

For now I'm using the countries list pulled from Wikipedia, and manually fix names that don't match - I just wanted to do it in a "cleaner" manner.
