Is a developer token a secret?

Hi,

Should I be treating my developer token as a secret? or can it be public? Is it a public identifier or a secret between me and google? Basically trying to figure out if it's going to be okay to leave this token in my source code on github.

Based on the docs, I haven't been able to figure out one way or another.
