Hi all,

I have been doing a lot of research around the status of the API for video campaigns. I have so far found pretty clear feedback that currently video campaigns are only available in the AdWords reports API (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/adwords-api/Wnrpryfllec).

However, I stumbled across a range of functions and calls that allow us to create an in-stream video, bumper video or discovery video ad via API (example: https://developers.google.com/adwords/scripts/docs/reference/adwordsapp/adwordsapp_instreamadbuilder). Does this mean, that as long as we manually ad a video campaign via the web interface, we can create video ads for that campaign via API? If not, can someone explain to me what those calls are for?

Hi Daniel,

Your reference documentation is specific to AdWords Scripts, and not AdWords API. If you have clarifications specific on this documentation, please post in the AdWords Scripts Forum.

For the AdWords API, the In-stream video ads or TrueView in-search video ads or other related video ads can only be created in the display network campaign, and not in a video campaign. Creating video ads under video campaigns is currently not supported in the AdWords API. You can only do this in the AdWords UI.

Thank you for clarifying. 

Regarding your suggestion for creating in-stream video ads in a display network campaign, I read that these are no longer being shown on YouTube and are being phased out on network partners correct? Meaning effectively YouTube video advertising is completely unaccessable via API? If so are there any plans whatsoever to enable this in the future (seems requests for this go back to 2015).

Hi Daniel,

On the AdWords API perspective, these types of video ads as template ads are still supported. However, since your concern is more on the product level (if these type of ads are no longer shown in YouTube and other network partners), I recommend you to please post this concern in the AdWords Community Forum as their team can better assist you on the product level issues/concerns.
