Add images to ad group?

Hi Google team,

I am try to link a image asset to a ad group , and using this api "adGroupAssets:mutate " https://developers.google.com/google-ads/api/rest/reference/rest/v16/customers.adGroupAssets/mutate.

After call this api, it return  assetLinkError with message "The given field type is not supported to be added directly through asset links".

How can i handle this error?
