Getting Keyword Data (e.g., Monthly Searches, Competition, Bid Price)

I would like to develop an application that can retrieve data associated with certain keywords. For example, let's say someone were to type in "digital camera", they should then be presented with Average Monthly Searches, Competition, Bid Price, etc... As well as additional suggested keywords and their associated metrics.

Would an application like this use the TargetingIdeaService? Or the TargetingIdeaSelector? Or maybe some other aspect of the AdWords API? 

Also, are there any tutorials that might lead me in the right direction? I intend to use PHP.

Hi Steve, 

Have you checked out the KeywordPlanner tool? This tool will suggest keyword ideas based on your existing keywords and website. You will able to able to view the historical stats for keywords based on which you can decide to use those keyword ideas or not. Please check our guide on targeting Ideas for more details. 

The TargetingIdeaService and the TrafficEstimatorService together can be used to achieve very similar results as to the Keyword Planner via the API. You could use the TargetingIdeaService to find keyword Ideas and get the search volume of those keyword ideas. TrafficEstimatorService can be used to plan your budget and get forecasts.
