TextAsset Account Limit

Hello, 

I am creating text assets using MutateAssetsRequest. May I know if there is any limit for the number of text assets in an account? I do not see text assets mentioned here: https://developers.google.com/google-ads/api/docs/best-practices/system-limits

I would like to inform you that there are limits on the number of assets that can be linked to campaigns and ad groups. The relevant limits from the Google Ads API documentation for assets are:

• Ad group-level assets: A maximum of 250,000 per account.
• Campaign-level assets: A maximum of 50,000 per account.
• Ad group-level assets per campaign: A maximum of 10,000.

These limits apply to all types of assets, including text assets, when they are associated with campaigns or ad groups. Kindly refer to the help center article About your Google Ads account limits to get more information.

Hello,

Thank you for the information. In this case I am creating Demand Gen ads, and linking text assets to them. When updating the ad's assets, I set the ads to use newly created assets. I understand from this page https://developers.google.com/google-ads/api/fields/v20/asset#asset.text_asset.text that assets cannot be modified or removed.

As such, I wish to understand:
What happens to the unlinked assets?
Is there a possible resource leak when updating assets this way?

Please find answers to your queries:

• What happens to the unlinked assets?

Assets are immutable and cannot be removed. To stop an asset from serving, remove the asset from the entity that is using it. The unlinked assets remain in your Google Ads asset library. You can remove their association with ads to stop them from serving, but you cannot permanently delete them through the Google Ads API. 

• Is there a possible resource leak when updating assets this way?

I suggest you refer to this help center article of assets for more details. To answer your query, could you please elaborate on the statement ‘possible resource leak’.

Hi,

By 'possible resource leak', I mean: if there is some limit for assets and they cannot be removed, then there could be many unlinked assets. Then the ad account will eventually hit the asset limit.

Are assets (for example, headline/long headline/description) for demand gen ads at the adgroup or campaign level, or some other level? Is there a limit for these assets?

Hi,

Yes, there are limits on the number of assets you can have in a Google Ads account, and these limits vary depending on the asset type and the level at which they are applied (account, campaign, or ad group). I would suggest you to refer to this help center articles which speaks about the Google ads account limits. As you can see the limits in the article, it is highly unlikely that you will no longer be able to create new assets due to the asset limit. Moreover, for the Demand Gen campaign, please refer to this document which guides you on best practices and limits for Demand Gen campaigns.
