For video assets, we have to upload them to YouTube manually and then COPY their youtube IDs to our ad-platform. It's very strange and inconvenient.

Although there is YouTube Data API v3 with uploading support. However there are TOO MANY restrictions (Quota limitations, Unverified API restrictions etc.)

Why not provide video uploading API directly in Adwords/Google-Ads api ?

Hi Todd,

Thank you for reaching out. The Google Ads API does not support the YouTube video uploading due to the single responsibility rule that each API/Service only focuses on one major responsibility. As the uploading could be achieved by YouTube Data API thus the integration is not necessary to be added to the Google Ads API. The restrictions would still apply even if the uploading feature is integrated to the Google Ads API as the bottlenecks are coming from the YouTube Data API.

Thanks and regards,
Xiaoming, Google Ads API Team

Thanks for reply.

In my opinion the using of YouTube Data API brings extra restrictions which are hard to resolve (please refer to this page: https://support.google.com/youtube/contact/yt_api_form?hl=en). Comparing to other platforms such as Tiktok Ads, uploading video assets are easy and directly.

When we encounter problem when using YouTube Data API for uploading video assets, You Google Ads API Team could say : " Oh, sorry, but it's not my bussiness".

Hi Todd,

Thank you for reaching out. The Google Ads API and YouTube Data API are two separate products. The YouTube Data API has its own restrictions when the users use it and this is not controlled by the Google Ads API. Even the Google Ads API does support uploading YouTube videos directly, it would make calls via the YouTube Data API under the hood to achieve the goal. It’s not realistic to reinvent the wheel.

Thanks and regards,

I tried the YouTube DATA API. Video assets were set to PRIVATE by YouTube when uploading with YouTube Data API v3 (Manually uploading them via YouTube Studio Portal is OK).

Hi Todd,

Thank you for reaching out. The YouTube Data API team would be more appropriate to resolve your issue. Please reach out to the YouTube Data API team via this link.
