YouTube Promotions data in Google Ads API

Hi Team,

We are getting YouTube promotion campaigns data in some google ads report and in some not.

Details:

If we create a YouTube promotion campaign in YouTube studio, after linking it with google ads account, we start getting that campaign's performance data in customer report and campaign budget report of google ads API. 

But we don't get those campaigns data in campaign report.  In campaign budget report too, we don't get campaign name, channel type, status anything for such campaigns. Their budget name starts with YouTube Promotion - {some date}

Also, in google ads interface, such campaigns data does not exist. (Not even at account level). So we are not sure if it is expected to get that data from API.

Do you know if

1. It is some discrepancy in API?

2. If it is expected then how can we exclude such campaigns data from account performance report and other report. (on what basis we should identify those instead of just budget group name)

3. Or include in all types of report?

In order to assist further, please provide us with complete API logs (request and response logs with request-id and request header) of campaign's performance data which you have retrieved from the customer report and campaign budget report of google ads API. .

If you are using a client library and haven't enabled the logging yet, I would request you to enable logging for the specific client library that you are using. You can refer to the guides Java, .Net, PHP, Python, Ruby or Perl to enable logging at your end. For REST interface requests, you can enable logging via the curl command by using the -i flag.

Based on the provided logs, I understand that campaign_budget and customer report returns the performance data of youtube promotion campaigns but the campaign report doesn't return the data. And also you mentioned that in the campaign budget report, you don't get the campaign name, channel type, status anything for such campaigns.

Could you please confirm whether you are able to see the youtube campaigns in the Google Ads UI? If yes, please share the name of the youtube promotion campaigns you are trying to retrieve from the campaign budget report along with the uncropped UI screenshot to help us investigate the issue further.

Hi Team,

No, I cannot see those campaigns in google ads interface (as mentioned in the first message). Even at account level, performance data does not include performance of youtube promotion campaigns in Google ads interface. (Bcz acc performance is equal to sum of entries campaign budget report excludiong that yt promotion campaign)

Hi,

Just to clarify, the Google Ads API allows you to fetch the same data that is available in the Google Ads UI. Since you mentioned those campaigns you cannot see in the UI. As a result, you would not be able to fetch this data through the Google Ads API either, since the API can only pull data that is visible in the UI.

I get it that we cannot get those campaigns from campaign report, but also wanted to know if we there is any way we can identify and exclude that data from Customer report and campaign budget report?

Also we just found that in Google Ads UI -> Report Editor -> Campaign Performance report, this campaigns is being listed. Attached screenshot for that.

Though it does not exist in campaigns page.

From the provided screenshot, you can retrieve the YouTube video performance data for the campaign 'Youtube Promotion - 2024-11-13 - 33994535' by querying the campaign resource in the Google Ads API for the specified date range of November 1st to November 30th. You can use the following query:

SELECT metrics.clicks, campaign.name, campaign.id, campaign.status, campaign.advertising_channel_type, metrics.all_conversions, metrics.conversions, metrics.impressions, metrics.cost_micros, segments.date FROM campaign WHERE segments.date BETWEEN '2024-11-01' AND '2024-11-30'

You can use the search or searchStream methods in making the API calls while retrieving the data. Additionally, you can utilize the Google Ads Query Builder and Query Validator to build and validate the queries for retrieving the data from the Google Ads API.

I used this query using search stream, Didn't got that YouTube promotion campaign in that. Providing logs in next private message.

May be google ads UI uses campaign_budget report for there? if yes then please confirm what is the right way to filter out these youtube promotion campaigns data from API. (for both customer and campaign_budget report).
