hello, team
I am failing  to clean up categoryFilters for account level location extension. I can remove businessNameFilter but categoryFilters remains as is.
I can add more categories but can't remove. Is that a bug or feature?

Thanks.

Hi Sergey,

Thanks for reaching out.

Could you first confirm if you are using AdWords API or the Google Ads API? To get a clearer understanding of your concern, could you provide the complete SOAP request and response logs (AdWords API) / JSON request and response logs (Google Ads API) when you are trying to remove the location extension? You may provide them using the reply privately to author option.

Regards,
Dannison

There i perform get request to show current state after that mutate request where i am trying to change category filter and after that get the current status again.

Hi Sergey,

In the SOAP requests where you are updating the feed via a SET operation, could you try issuing 2 separate requests?
  • First, a request without category filters.
  • Second, a request with only the new category filters.
The first request should clear the list of filters, and then the second request will add only the filters you want.

Thanks,
Josh, Google Ads API Team

Hi Josh,
Thanks, can we say that AdWords behavior was changed? So we can't perform two changes in one go?
I believe that two changes in one go worked fine a month ago.

Thanks.

Hi Sergey,

Sorry, I wasn't very clear on my last message. You can still submit multiple operations in a single mutate request. What's unique about my suggestion is that it requires two operations on the same object. Therefore, you would need to send those two operations in separate requests in order to avoid a DUPLICATE_ELEMENT error.

Unfortunately, it looks like my suggestion will not work. I tried it on my own test account, and I'm only able to add more category filters. I've reported this to the feeds team and will let you know once I hear back from them.

Hi Sergey,

I'll definitely let you know once I have more information from the feeds team. One workaround would be to delete the existing feed, and then add it a new feed with only the filters you want to keep. However, this will require creating new CustomerFeed, CampaignFeed, and AdGroupFeed objects (if you have any for the current feed) that point to the new feed's ID. In addition, this will lead to new feed item IDs, so stats such as Impressions and Clicks will appear in reports under those new IDs. This could be a problem if you're trying to track stats by ID over time, as you'll have a different feed ID and different feed item IDs depending on the date range of your reports.

Best regards,

Sergey Petrov

Hi Josh !
Agree, this workaround could work, but as you mentioned it will be hard to track all stats properly.
So it would be better to have another way to go.
Thanks. Waiting for updates :)

Hi Sergey,

I've asked the feeds team for an update. I also asked if there was a workaround available via any other mechanism, as I do not see a way to view or edit the filters in the UI. I'll get back to you as soon as I have more info.

Thanks,

Sergey Petrov

Hi Sergey,

The feeds team is making progress on this, but I don't have any updates yet on a fix. I'll definitely let you know as soon as I have more information.
