Parallel tracking doesn't work with tracking tamplate.

We set click tracking template for our clients through API but when google search users clicks on our client's ads they are sent not on advertising site but on our tracking url.

We thought parallel tracking should work another way: users clicks on ad and then going to final url. In parallel google sends a separate request to our tracking server. Doesn't it?

What's going on now. Example:

Client has tracking template in AdWords account settings =>  https://www.trackingtemplate.foo/?url={lpurl}

Client final URL in ad is  =>  https://demo-shop.com

When someone clicks on client's ad, he is redirected to =>  https://www.trackingtemplate.foo/?url={lpurl}

https://demo-shop.com is unreachable (we do not use redirect on the server).

What we thought parallel tracking works like:

Client has tracking template in AdWords account settings =>  https://www.trackingtemplate.foo/?url={lpurl}

Client final URL in ad is  =>  https://demo-shop.com

When someone clicks on client's ad, he is redirected to =>  https://demo-shop.com

In parallel google sends a separate request to our tracking server =>  https://www.trackingtemplate.foo/?url={lpurl}

We don't use redirect on this request on the server.

So, where is our mistake? How to make parallel tracking work?

Hi,

You are correct about how parallel tracking works. However, take note that currently, parallel tracking is only supported by search and shopping campaigns for Chrome browser in Android. Support for more campaign types and platforms will be added in the upcoming weeks/months. If the click occurs on an ad which does not satisfy the above conditions, the system will fall back to the old mechanism of tracking (sequential tracking).

To further investigate. could you provide at least 2 or 3 sample adGroupIds and adIds that you think has parallel tracking implementation in your account? You may provide them using the reply privately to author option.

But this doc says that Starting October 30, 2018, parallel tracking will be required for all Google Ads accounts.

Or it means "required for all accounts but will be available only for search camp in android"?

You are correct, parallel tracking will be required for all accounts but will only be implemented in Search and Shopping campaigns as of the moment. Support for more campaign types and platforms will be added in the upcoming months.
