Hello,

>I copied "Sheet A" which had "Report A" setup for multiple accounts.
>The copied Sheet, let's call it "Sheet B", had its version of "Report A", let's call it "Report B", edited by navigating through "Add-ons" > "Google AdWords (Beta)" > "Edit a report".
>The edit to "Report B" changed the selected accounts from what had been selected in "Report A" to a set of new accounts.
>After submitting the edit to "Report B" in "Sheet B", the selected accounts in "Report A" in "Sheet A" changed to match what was submitted in the other Sheet though no changes were made in "Sheet A".

This was a problem for me because I was trying to setup a template. I'm unable to copy the template and use for multiple versions of selected accounts because changing the selected accounts in one version seemingly changes the selected accounts in all versions.
Is there any known workaround for this issue?

Thanks.

Hi Mike,

We would recommend creating new reports using the "Add-ons > Google AdWords (Beta) > Create a report" menu item. If you create using the menu, you can select different sets of accounts via the right sidebar.

Copying an existing report sheet does not register it as a report in the report configuration tab automatically yet, and when you hit 'Edit report', the tool edited the only report it knows of, which is "Report A"

For help on how to use the add-on, please refer to https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/9000139

Thanks for your response.

While I understand that creating a new report in the copied sheet would solve the issue, for the purposes of creating a template this makes extra work that I was hoiping to avoid. In my template I had formulas setup on each reports' tab that would require much more time and effort to setup on a newly created report than if simply editing which accounts are selected and letting the formulas "do their magic" in hidden sheets in the background was an option.

I find it odd that editing a report in a copied sheet would effect a different report in a different sheet, in this case the original report in the original sheet. It's also a permissions / security risk:
>Someone does not have permission to edit my original sheet with an original report
>I make them a copied sheet which contains a copied report
>They edit the selected accounts in the copied report in the copied sheet
>My selected accounts in my original report and original sheet to which they don't have permissions is now altered.
^This is a problem.

I understand that this add-on is in Beta and hope that this is something that can be addressed sooner rather than later. Editing the report in the copied sheet should either not effect the original report in the original sheet or there should be an option to also apply changes to the originals if desired and permissions should allow it.

In the short time that I've been using this tool I've found it very useful and am imagining endless possibilities for use cases in my job function. I'd like to share what I've created with my co-workers to give them better tools to manage AdWords accounts which would benefit themselves, our clients, and Google. Until this is addressed it will be significantly harder to share my Sheets with others and customize them to fit specific needs.

Please keep me updated.

Hi Mike,

Thank you for the details.

The reports that the add-on recognizes are listed in the 'Report Configuration' tab. If you create using the add-on menu, you would notice that creating a new report adds a column of report configuration to this 'Report Configuration' sheet (in addition to creating the new report in a tab of its own)

Manually editing the 'Report Configuration' sheet itself is not supported in the 'beta' version, but we are working on it. However, even once it is supported, copying existing report tabs manually will not automatically add a column to the configuration sheet.

Also, I believe the confusion about 'editing another sheet' is because the configuration sheet only recognizes one report, and in case of just one report, we assume thats the report you want to edit. If you had multiple reports to choose from, you would get a prompt to ask which report you want to edit. I am not sure if I follow the permissions/security risk, as they should only be able to edit the sheets they have access to, if they don't have write permissions, they would get an error message.

We are excited to know that you find the add-on useful. Would love to know more about the interesting ways you are using the add-on.

Also, kindly bear with us while we iron out the kinks in this 'beta' release and publish a more polished version soon.

Thank you and have a nice day!

Hello,

Thanks for your response.

I wanted to follow up here and confirm that the issue that I specified was not the result of manually editing the 'Report Configuration' sheet itself.

I don't think you're fully understanding the issue that I'm encountering.

I'm not duplicating tabs within an exisitng sheet, but rather making a copy of an exisitng sheet by selecting the option in the box in red below.

I am then editing the reports in the menus of this new, copied sheet using the option in the red box below.

Doing this changes the batch of AdWords accountsof the original report in the original sheet. In this case what was boxed in red above in the original report and original sheet will be changed to the selected accounts in the new report in the new, copied sheet.

Let me know if I can provide any more clarification.

I understand this is still in Beta and am looking forward to further iterations mioving forward. Please let me know how I can help impvoe the add-on in any way possible.

Hi Mike,

Once again, thank you for the details and the screenshots. They were really helpful. :)

I see the issue that you are talking about. This isnt something that we currently have support for. However, the behavior of editing the original sheet from the copied sheet should not happen. We will look into the issue.

Thank you again for bringing this to our notice.

Hi Mike,

I tried to replicate the steps you have listed down.

I did the following:
1) Create a report (e.g. Campaign report) and selected say 10 accounts for that report
2) Copied the sheets file using 'File > Make a copy'. The copied sheet has the same data as the original sheet
3) Tried to edit the report in copied sheet using 'Add-ons > Google AdWords (beta)'.
The menu does not have a 'Edit report' option yet, since the add-on does not recognize this as a AdWords report yet.
4) The only option in the menu is 'Create a report' which triggers the whole flow of 'selecting an account', 'configuring the report options using the right sidebar, e.g. choosing accounts, columns, report type etc).
5) Once you create a report in the copied sheet, you  get an option to Edit report, which lists all the reports in the config sheet (newly created one as well as the one that got copied over). If you choose to Edit the report that got copied over, it also edits the original report from the original sheet.

I think this happens because when you did Make a Copy, it also copied over the report ID. However, I believe you can only edit the reports you have access to. If the user does not have access to the original sheet, it will error out. I will verify this with my engineering team though.

In the meantime, thank you for catching this issue and helping us make the add-on better and more robust.
We will be working to fix this issue, and keep you posted.

Have a nice day!
