Please see the below announcement of the Portland Alt/Az Workshop from Howard Banich and Mel Bartels. Both of them are on this mailing list for any further discussion.

The Portland Alt/Az Workshop, held annually and of-late in a hybrid fashion, has been a conference for amateur telescope makers to meet and exchange new ideas. Since last year, Mel Bartels is co-chairing the workshop and it has a visual deep-sky observing component. This is the only workshop in the US that I'm aware of featuring talks on visual deep-sky observing.

Past presentations are accessible on these YouTube channels:

Last year's visual observing track featured presentations by Steve Gottlieb, Mel Bartels, Cindy Krach and Howard Banich

Subject: 2025 Alt Az Workshop dates are set

Hi everyone,

We've just confirmed the dates for this year's Alt Az Workshop - 10 October through 12 October, 2025. The workshop will once again be held at Dan Gray's TMS location on Swan Island in Portland Oregon, and will be live streamed on Zoom and YouTube.

The agenda is not set, so if you have a recent project you'd like to talk about, please contact me or Mel directly with your proposal. We plan to confirm the agenda by mid-September.

We'll also have our typical continental breakfasts and bbq dinners/lunches for $5 each (cash only please), and the first two people to volunteer to do the bbq-ing will eat for free.

If you know someone not listed on this email, and would be interested in attending in-person or online, please feel free to forward this email - we just request that they contact Mel or myself so we can include them in later email updates.

The formal announcement, physical address of TMS, nearby hotels, and the agenda will be sent out to this email list by mid-September, when I'll also post this info on Cloudy Nights, Deep Sky Forum and the Rose City Astronomers forum.

For now, save the dates 10 October through 12 October, 2025 and consider giving a presentation on your most recent project.

Howard and Mel
