Minecraft not working on mac

Hello! I have downloaded minecraft version xxx onto my mad (OS X el capitan version 10.11.6) but whenever I click launch it shows me this message:

How do I fix this, or what is going wrong in the launch? My mac is completely updated, as is minecraft, I cannot figure out why it will not work.

Sorry I don't know what to suggest. The error is with Minecraft itself, not anything required for Adventures in Minecraft. Maybe a reinstall of Java? But I'm guessing.
