Dear Mr. Shuvra,
We are very surprised to see the name of Bangladesh Astronomical Society blamed for arranging Sunrise Festival and making falsified statement to the daily Prothiom Alo about the spot and height of a site in CHT. As you know Bangladesh Astronomical Society is an Internationally accredited Organisation which arranges Programmes strictly related to Astronmomy and Space Science. In fact, Sunrise Observation Festival has been organised by Bangladesh Astronomical Association over a few years for Commercial purposes and the statements made by the Association to the Press apparently is to lure customers for more business. As you personally know our General Secretary Mr. F. R. Sarker is financially sound and he does not arrange any event for commercial purposes or takes donations from others. He has been running Bangladesh Astronomical Society from his personal fund since its inception in 1984. Best regards.
Mamun Ahamed Sharif
Office Secretary
Bangladesh Astronomical Society
and
International Year of Astronomy 2009 in Bangaldesh

Hi,
Today (saturday) I have noticed a report on the Prothom Alo - Chhutir Din. It is about the Sunrise festival of Astronomical society, which is a very well known event in BD, doing nice trips in the 31st Dec each year, and see the first sunrise on the year from some exciting place of BD. Till now they have done it in Keokradong, St. Martin, Durgapur, Pabla Khai reserv forest as I know. Those all are good thing and great idea, we appriciate.
But today I found a strange report of Bangladesh Astronomical society trip on Prothom Alo.
Where you will find : 1. Khagrachhri in the border of Myanma!!!! 2. A peak of 3300+ feet in Khagrachhari!!
3. Hati pahar is joined with Clangmoy!!
You can check and verufy 3000feet peaks in google earth, its acuricy is good, (+/- 100) feet is the worst case. On the adventure BD home page you can also check the following link, a posting on June 12, 2008.

The report may be originally from the Mashur Amin, the leader of the trip, but the question is how does a news paper like Prothon Alo publish this? What does the reporter do?
