Hi Friends,

HydVentura is planning a Exploratory trek through forests/mud over a span of 2 days (Jan 4th – 5th), near Sagar, Karnataka. This place is quite very near to Mangalore.

The Sharavathi Valley:- The Sharavathi river valley nestled in the central Western Ghats, Shimoga district has been an ecological paradise. The Sharavathi River, rising at Ambuthirtha in Thirthahalli taluk flows north-west and drops down in the Ghats at the world famous Jog falls. The sharavathi Valley is home for many water falls and to some of the beautiful streams. The valley is evergreen to semi-evergreen forest along with moist deciduous type of forests dominate the entire basin along with scrub savannah, grasslands, marshy areas and plantation of acacia, cash crops like areca and rubber providing diverse niches for a variety of taxa. Rare evergreen species such as Dipterocarpus, Syzygium, Cinnamon, Diospyros, Aglaia, endemic Palms along with the globally endangered Myrist-icasps makes this an ecologically sensitive region to be conserved and not marketed.

The plan goes like this

3rdJan: [Friday]

1. 18:00 hrs: Bus to shimoga , from your respective locations.

4th Jan : [Saturday]

1. 06:00 hrs: Reach shimoga.
2. 06:30 hrs: Start to Sagar – by Bus/Jeep/Local taxi
3. 09:00 hrs: Reach Sagar. Breakfast
4. 08:00 hrs: Start trek up gagana water falls.
5. 14:00 hrs: lunch
6. 19:30 hrs: Dinner time.
7. 20:00 hrs: Play some games, around the camp-fire (subject to availability). Sleep after that.

5th jan: [Sunday]

1. 05:00 hrs: Wake up call. Freshen up & breakfast.
2. 06:00 hrs: Start trek to kusama water falls.
3. 08:30 hrs: Reach waterfall, & spend some time over there.
4. 17:00 hrs: Reach shimoga.
5. 18:00 hrs: Board bus to your respective locations.

9th December: [Monday]
18. 06:00 hrs: Reach Home.


Things to carry:

1. Rucksack/ backpack, with rain cover

2. Sleeping bag(manditory)

3. Plastic ground sheet/ foam mattress; a few plastic covers to keep items dry.

4. Cotton Shirt & Pant – jeans is NOT a good idea.

5. Hunter Shoe / Trekking Shoe with extra socks – slippers/ floaters are NOT a good idea.

6. Slippers/ floaters for wearing at night/ in the train.

7. Light Rain coat

8. Torch. Also, 1 or 2 candles and matches (inside a waterproof cover).

10. Water Bottle min (2 lt)

11. Toilet kit

13. (Camera/Binocular- OPTIONAL)

14. First – Aid kit, any specific medicines you need.

15. Traveller's/swiss knife ..If you have one

16. Carry Identification card

17. Since it is season of rains, please be prepared for encountering showers and leaches.


Note:

1. Pl. do not expect luxury during the Trip.
2. No alcohol or loud music. Also we prefer non-smokers.
3. Strictly no plastics to be thrown.
4. This Trip is open for Infosys and Non-Infoscions as well.
5. Last date for nomination is 25th DECEMBER by 4:00 PM (Strictly). Amount should be transferred to the account number [will be sent once nominations are frozen]
6. The cost mentioned below included all expenses, except the emergencies. However, for folks coming from other locations (except Hyderabad), transportation cost will be additional, & will be arranged only when asked.
