What are some of your favorite Christmas movies and songs? What kind
of expectations do these movies or songs portray about the holiday? Do
they support healthy Christmas expectations? Do they remind you of the
true meaning of Christmas? Do they show how silly we can be about our
Christmas expectations?

Let's see

A Charlie Brown Christmas (every year since it's first broadcast) # 1
with a bullet!
The Peter, Paul and Mary Christmas Special (have it on tape and watch
every year)
"Silent Night" (love midnight candleight service with this at the end,
you walk out and it is Christmas Day)
"A Soulin"-again, PP & M-great guitar licks, great harmony as only PP
& M can do. Children going from house to house singing for
some small gift.
"The Gentle Beasts"--Donna's favorite
Manheim Steamroller Christmas albums--Just great music
"Momma Got Run Over by a Reindeer"-Ok, not very Christmas'y, but
appeals to my warped sense of humor and how we tend to miss the
meaning of Christmas completely. Total silliness.
There are probably more, but this is what I could think of on the spur
of the momnent.

So National Lampoon's Christmas is one of my favorites...it is one of
Trey's too and when we got married we realized it was the only movie
we had in duplicate...I love this movie because I have a tendency to
want "big family" Christmas' too. I set high expectations for yearly
traditions and think that when all of the family comes together that
everything is going to be just great! Then reality sets in and I
realize that just because it is Christmas our family issues don't go
away...and sometimes the holiday makes some of them worse...It can
become hard to have grace and mercy with the ones that know how to
push your buttons...

Another favorite of mine, that I discovered last year, is White
Christmas with Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, and Rosemary Clooney. I love
the singing and dancing and crazy stunts. I love how dashing the men
are and how lady like the women are in the movie. I also like that
they get snow in Vermont and that everything works out in the end
despite some of the characters getting in their own way...

Every year my favorite Christmas song changes. This year I have two:
Mary Did You Know and Breath of Heaven. I think this is because I am
expecting a little boy any day now and can really identify with
Mary....I also like Christmas Cookies by George Strait but it really
has nothing to do with the Christmas story...it is just fun...=)
