Greetings Scouts,

Requirement 4: Choose an issue that is important to the citizens of your community; then do the following:
  • (a) Find out which branch of local government is responsible for this issue.
  • (b) With your counselor's and a parent's approval, interview one person from the branch of government you identified in requirement 4a. Ask what is being done about this issue and how young people can help.
  • (c) Share what you have learned with your counselor.
Megan Birch-McMichael, who is a member of the town of Stow Select Board, has agreed to attend the June 5th scout meeting, where she will be available to be interviewed about the town of Stow priorities. Several of you had watched a video of the Select Board, therefore you should be familiar with several recent issues within the town. For others, if you wish to use this opportunity, take a look at recent select board meeting agenda or Videos for ideas of recent town issues. To get credit for this requirement, I ask that you come prepared to ask your  interview questions, as you will be called on to participate.

Requirement 8: Develop a public presentation (such as a video, slide show, speech, digital presentation, or photo exhibit) about important and unique aspects of your community. Include information about the history, cultures, and ethnic groups of your community; its best features and popular places where people gather; and the challenges it faces. Stage your presentation in front of your merit badge counselor or a group, such as your patrol or a class at school.

Also, please begin working on requirement 8, with the intention to hand it in before June 12th. It can be as simple a google slide show, a posterboard or a full production video, such as the following two examples.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nh90Yv_oRjQ
So long as it covers all of the items listed in the requirement.

Best Regards,
Jeremy

Greetings Scouts,

Just a reminder that on Monday, we will be having a visit from Town Select Board member, Megan Birch-McMichael and this will be an opportunity to complete Requirement 4.

Please see the email below for notes and remember to "be prepared" with your interview questions.

Greetings Trevor,

I do not know if you completed Citizenship in the Community Merit badge. My older records had indicated you were only missing requirements 4 and 7. If you still haven't completed #4, there will be an opportunity to interview a Town Board Member at this monday's meeting.

Greetings scouts.

I appreciate the good discussion we had last night. To wrap up requirement 4 we need to complete part 4C in which you share your learnings. This can be done by filling out this survey to share.

The last two remaining requirements for many of you are the 8 hour service requirement and a presentation about Stow. These are for you to complete at your pace. I will offer an opportunity for scouts to stage your presentation next week for those who would like to complete it. It can be as simple as a posterboard, a video giving a presentation, or a live presentation at the next scout meeting. Make sure it covers all of the items listed in the requirement. And please let me know by Sunday June 11th as to whether you will be presenting this requirement.
Requirement 8: Develop a public presentation (such as a video, slide show, speech, digital presentation, or photo exhibit) about important and unique aspects of your community. Include information about the history, cultures, and ethnic groups of your community; its best features and popular places where people gather; and the challenges it faces. Stage your presentation in front of your merit badge counselor or a group, such as your patrol or a class at school

Best Regards,
Jeremy
