Comrades,

I had trouble following some of your posts under the "Tomato" topic, so I'm starting what I hope will be an easier to follow thread.

First, it has now been 50 hours, by my count, since my kids started the exam. Weren't the essay questions supposed to have been posted by now? I've searched all over AP Central and the Community - nothinng. Any insights? Am I just being antsy?

I would agree that my students felt the mcq's were very long - due to the reading - and more of a comprehension test than a historical content test. The great equalizer, I suppose, is that all of the kids struggle equally so a norm-referenced test will sort that out. I agree, that it forces us to change our test prep, and while I included many reading passages in my tests, clearly, not enough. Moreover, the questions I asked students about those passages may not have been as close to what CB was asking. Weren't we promised another released exam this summer, and then one every year thereafter? Anyone have the scoop on when those little gems might appear?

I won't be in SLC, but I think we might be able to organize some summer prep activity e.g. Monica's request for CC and CCOT questions or something similar. I'm open to suggestions!

Cheers,

Dave

Hi Dave,
I too cannot find the essays. ....sigh....
no idea when they will release an exam BUT I really am not happy about this format. I had many kids (my best students- not the usual whiny ones) say that they felt it was more of a reading comprehension test than testing their content knowledge. I have no idea how receptive CB will be to listening to US (who actually deliver their product!) but I do know that I piloted this exam format a few years ago and gave lengthy feedback that apparently did nothing. This coming Monday, I'm doing another pilot but they aren't asking for ANY feedback- so what's the point of that??? I'm a little frustrated. :-/
Sorry you won't be in SLC.
Laurie

OK, now having seen the essays, they surely are challenging - no Indian Ocean or Silk Road soft balls, here. They do however seem do-able. I'm sure the kids were surprised to see so much European content in the DBQ, but it is global so it seems reasonable in that regard. I do wonder about how kids did reading so much in 10 min. I know DBQ's have a word limit but it seems very long. Looking forward to hear what the rest of you think. If you haven't seen them, the essays are at: http://apcentral.collegeboard.com/apc/members/exam/exam_information/2090.html
