was created in 1377 and abolished in 1826.

French, along with her parents and other children. She is the only one spared and lives with the Indians for 78
years.

Press, 2012, 344 pp. As a tangent to abduction of children by colonial empires, there is the need for the empire
to define racial rules, ie., who can be accepted as a citizen and who continues to be the Other. Emmanuelle
Saade found a 1928 French colonial law interpreting race and citizenship and compares French colonial administration
in North Africa, Middle East and Southeast Asia from the late 19th through decolonization. In other words, which
children are metis and which are not.
