In this chapter, when talking about the samsara that the jiva experiences, the adjective 'Mayarachita' is given for the Jiva:
It is Narayana who is Swamyajyoti svarupa who has entered the bodies throughmaya as jiva and experiences samsara.
The 13th chapter of Bhagavad Gita is meant to teach the distinction of Kshetra and Kshetra. Kshetra is inert, Kshetra is sentient. Why this section is needed is explained in this chapter as follows:
The Atman dwells in samsara, mistaking Prakriti's attributes as its own, due to ignorance.
The Upanishads say that Jiva and Ishvara appears due to upadhi:
Tripaadvibhuti Mahanarayanopanishat.
Shuka rahasya upanishat.
Thus only Advaita agrees that Brahman is itself the jiva due to maya/adhyasa.
