Hari Om,

तद्वा अस्यैतदतिच्छन्दा अपहतपाप्माभयं रूपम् ।

My own self is devoid of desire and fear.

Bondage is nothing but fear and desire. They throttle one's neck. They make sure that one cannot even breathe peacefully. That one cannot sit peacefully even for a moment.

To exist with desires and fears is identical to exist in a prison. They bind us. They make us restless. They make sure that we cannot even breathe peacefully.

Can we exist without fear? Without fear of anything?

No fear of missing out of this human life?

No fear of not getting mOksha?

No fear of loss of reputation, wealth?

No fear of loss of scholarship?

No fear of not understanding vedAnta?

Fears and desires are rooted in our ignorance of taking non-self as self. I think I am a man living in India having a family. So, all subsequent desires and fears arise.

To get rid of this ignorance means to be free of desires and fears.

So, I analyse -- how to get rid of this ignorance!!

I investigate ignorance and find that it is just a mirage. It appears while it is not. Nothing is going to remove it because it does not even exist for it to get removed.

And then ignorance, fears and desires become immaterial. Their presence or absence become immaterial.

And one situates not as non-self but as one's own self, devoid of desire, fear and ignorance. Seeing absence and presence of desires, fears and ignorance. Just seeing.

Regards.
Sudhanshu Shekhar.

Nice mananam Sudhanshu Ji.  We are reminded of the bold statement  'abhayam vai Janaka praāpto'si'  अभयं वै जनक प्राप्तोऽसि’ (बृ. उ. ४ । २ । ४)   by Yajnavalkya.

यतेन्द्रियमनोबुद्धिर्मुनिर्मोक्षपरायणः । विगतेच्छाभयक्रोधो यः सदा मुक्त एव सः ॥ २८ ॥   BG 5.28 and so on.  The gunas to be practiced have abhayam as one of them.

warm regards
subbu
