Hi
I have some questions about the difference of AVL cruise and advisor. Could you please help in the following question:
First, as far as I know AVL uses advisor models.
I have not interacted with AVL Cruise in a long time but I don't believe they are using anything from ADVISOR in their Cruise product. AVL was the owner/distributor of ADVISOR for several years prior to the release of ADVISOR as open-source software. The version of ADVISOR available to you online is from 2004, the last year it was developed by NREL. If AVL did anything with ADVISOR during their time of licensing it, none of those changes were ever shared out to us.
I know that advisor is free-source and I can develop it.I want to know if AVL has more updated an complete models comparing to advisor?
You would have to judge that for yourself as, again, I don't have any direct experience.
I have a small research company has started working on hybrid vehicles. Do you recommend me to use advisor or buy an AVL package?
Again, best for you to do the evaluation for yourself. I can tell you about ADVISOR but cannot make the value judgement between the two packages.
The last version of advisor was released at 2003. If I use advisor, is it possible that I face difficulties in modeling new hybrid configurations such as 48V BAS, parallel P2 or P4.
ADVISOR has many of the main types of vehicle powertrains and so you can generally pick one that is "close enough" for a high-level initial model. The datasets in ADVISOR are quite old, however. Especially, I think the battery data is out of date.
Do automobile manufacturer companies around the world still use advisor or they try another commercial software such as AVL.
I don't have any direct knowledge of that. You can go on sourceforge and see the number of downloads of ADVISOR over time as well as the location of download but not the breakdown by company.
In summary, would you please describe the advantageous of AVL cruise over advisor and what is your recommendation for commercial purposes?
Especially since ADVISOR is not a commercial entity, we don't have this kind of information. I would recommend that, if you have matlab/simulink, that you donwload and try ADVISOR and see what it is and also request a trial license from AVL to evaluate their software. Hope that helps.
