Dear COABE Members:

On Monday 3/26, we issued an alert asking key advocates in each state to call their Senators and ask that the Senators sign the Webb Dear Colleague Letter in support of adult education funding. The deadline for them to sign is Noon Eastern today (3/28) and everything you need to follow up is here: http://blog.ncladvocacy.org/2012/03/webbletter/ . The following Senators have signed so far:

Jack Reed (RI)

Patrick Leahy (VT)

Jeff Bingaman (NM)

Mark Begich (AK)

Sheldon Whitehouse (RI)

Jeanne Shaheen (NH)

We have also heard that the following senators have either signed the Blumenthal-Snowe Dear Colleague which mentions adult education or they are friends of adult literacy. We need a targeted effort from key advocates in their states this morning who already have relationships with their offices. Call these offices and ask that the Senator sign the Webb Dear Colleague letter in support of adult education funding:

Bernie Sanders (VT)

John Kerry (MA)

Barbara Boxer (CA)

Sherrod Brown (OH)

Al Franken (MN)

Robert Menendez (NJ)

Jeff Merkeley (OR)

Ron Wyden (OR)

Phone #s and copy of letter are here: http://blog.ncladvocacy.org/2012/03/webbletter/

Thanks to all for your fast footwork, especially given the quick turnaround on this letter. We are joining the National Coalition for Literacy, its member organizations, and the state directors in this effort.

Jackie
