Welcome back from our summer respite.  I apologize for the delay in sending out our weekly announcements but we are in the process of changing both the format and the mechanism by which we communicate.   For the next few weeks we will continue to use google groups and will notify you when we change to a different system.

Meditation – Rob Cosinuke and James Hencke, 8-9 pm, Library

In meditation practice, we allow ourselves to dwell in the present moment. We find that by developing our awareness and compassion we can open ourselves, relax into situations, and enjoy our life!

 *Tuesday*

Jobseekers Buddy Group – 4-6pm, Library

Theresa Howe, Tom Neel, Ed Yee

The jobseeker buddy group is a small support group for people looking

for new or better jobs. We provide encouragement, feedback, ideas,

resume suggestions, job leads, unemployment assistance advice and

networking opportunities to each other.

 

The Quilters’ Group and Knitting Circle – Gladys Unger and Eva

Patalas, 7:30 pm, RE Classroom #4

Come join us in making quilts for children at Renewal House, or

knitting for a variety of charity organizations. New members are

always welcome!

 

*Thursday*

Living with Serious Illness – Nanny Almquist and Kathy Lind

7pm, Library

Our lives are constantly changing and facing changes that involve illness makes us feel vulnerable.  This ongoing support group facilitated by Kathy Lind and Nanny Almquist provides a space and time to understand and process feelings and circumstances related to dealing with serious illness, both for caregivers and people in all stages of discovery and recovery.  Ben Bauer will facilitate this month’s meeting.

 

Coming Up:

Wednesday, Sept. 18, 8pm, Parlor

Poetry exchange with our partner church visitors.

Richard Waring will moderate a sort of "poetry slam," in which our Transylvanian visitors and First Church poetry enthusiasts alternately read or recite poems to each other, translated by Livia Racz and/or other translators.  The theme of the evening is “Friendship”.


Thursday, Sept. 19, 7:30pm, Conference Room

Science and Spirituality Ken Bernstein and Edwin Taylor

We are an interchurch group engaged in exchanging thoughts on ideas in science and their influence on our spiritual lives. Larry Melnick will lead a discussion on the currently-popular book The New Digital Age by Eric Schmidt (CEO of Google) and Jared Cohen. First Church Book Group will discuss Louise Erdrich’s novel The Round House

The Book Group is always open to new members.  There is no long term commitment.   Feel free to join us for a single evening's discussion or to become a regular participant.  We ask only that you confirm your intention to attend on a particular evening by the Monday before each session.  Please contact Anne Stuart at: ast...@uubelmont.org or Karl Klasson at kkla...@uubelmont.org to confirm attendance if you are interested in participating or have any questions.
