Gospel Portraits of Jesus, 12:30-2pm, Library
Rev. Doris Hunter assisted by Edwin Taylor
This class will offer an aesthetic and literary appreciation of the
gospels of Matthew and Mark. It will be followed by a second session
on Feb. 24th which will explore the gospels of Luke and John. Our
analysis will help us to answer the question: Who is Jesus? Reading
the gospels prior to class is encouraged. Light refreshments will be
provided.

Spiritual Renewal through Poetry, 4-5pm, Parlor, Peter Guthrie
Good poems can help us see ourselves and our lives more clearly,
trigger moments of epiphany, and cut through the confusion of life to
what truly matters: How can we lead a meaningful life? How can we make
sense of loss and joy? How can we connect on a deeper level with
ourselves and others? We will read and discuss poems that deal with
spiritual issues in the broadest sense of the term. All are welcome.
No sign-ups necessary.
Sundays, Jan. 13, 20, 27, Feb. 3
Coming Up:
The First Church Book Group - Wednesday, January 23, at 6:00 p.m.,
Library . We will meet to discuss Edwin O’Connor’s The Last Hurrah and
watch the classic Spencer Tracy movie of the same name. The movie
will be shown at 6:00 and the discussion will follow that.
Participants are welcome to bring light hors d’ouevres and/or
beverages.
Published in 1956, The Last Hurrah is considered the best of
O’Connor’s novels. It details the final mayoral campaign of former
governor Frank Skeffington, a powerful and corrupt Irish American
politician in an unnamed northeastern city. Skeffington’s story is
assumed to have been based on the life of James Michael Curley. The
1958 film adaptation was directed by John Ford. Please email Anne
Stuart at:

interested in participating.
Sunday, Jan. 27, 12:30-2pm, Parish Hall
The youth group invites you to a screening of "Beasts of the Southern
Wild". We hope you'll join us to watch the film and then participate
in multi-generational listening circles afterward, where we'll reflect
on the film and our church-wide theme of Economic Justice. Co-
sponsored by The Adult Programs and Social Action Committees
A Historical Look at Comparative World Religions
Sandy Nayak
In our congregation many of us come from other faith backgrounds or
have lived abroad enough to appreciate other traditions. This five
session class will examine several major faith traditions and look at
the planet-wide religious picture at five different time periods.
We’ll see who was influencing whom in the 15th, 5th centuries BCE and
the 1st, 7th, and 17th centuries CE. It is not necessary to attend
all sessions. To register contact Lillian Anderson at
