Gradle build daemon disappeared unexpectedly (it may have been stopped, killed or may have crashed)

Has anyone seen this error? I'm running Android Studio 0.8.2, and have been recently hitting this issue when building debug versions of the app.

Gradle seems to fail, but Android Studio doesn't provide any relevant output (nothing in logs or anything). As well, it appears to still push APK to my device - which just happens to be whatever the last successful build was.

Any ideas? This fails intermittently, regardless of whatever other apps I am running.
