Preparing for the Test

The DPAT is a timed, 2-hour, computer-based aptitude and behavioral test that consists of 2 parts.  You may find the following guideline helpful as you prepare to take the test.

Part 1: Aptitude Test - This is a 1-hour test, in multiple-choice format, that presents the taker with word and mathematical problems that measure problem solving, comparative, quantitative and analytical abilities. Some of the questions are similar to what you would normally see on the GRE/SAT tests or in common IQ test-type puzzles. Some common items are simple math/algebraic problems, word problems, questions on geometric figures, questions on numeric or alphabetic series etc.

Notes:

·         Have pencil and paper handy. Use of a Calculator is Prohibited.

·         Prior to taking the test, you may want to write out the alphabet on a sheet of scrap paper and then write the corresponding numbers below each letter (example, A = 1; B = 2; etc). This may help you with the section of the test that asks questions relating to alpha sequencing.

·         Each question is worth the same amount, so it is generally not advisable to let yourself get "stuck" wasting too much time on a single question. "Moving on" and skipping a question may be the best time-management strategy in some cases.

·         Remember that each correct answer equals one point, skipped questions 0 points and incorrect answers subtracts -1/4 point.  Therefore, it is generally not advisable to make a random guess unless you can eliminate several answers.

·         Don't worry if you don't finish a section. The test is designed so that most people do not finish everything.  In addition, it isn't necessary to finish to do well.

Part 2: Personality Assessment – This assessment consists of several sub-parts - a strictly Personality-oriented portion, plus questions that ask about a worker's flexibility, assertiveness, motivation, mental toughness.  It is a much more subjective test than the aptitude test. All these sections totaled together comprise the full Personality Assessment.

Notes:

·         Answer honestly and fully.

·         Don't over think and try to guess the 'best answer'.

·         Remain relaxed - this test is intended to be subjective in nature.
