Prem Granth is a Hindi-language movie that was released in India on 22 May 1996. It is directed by Rajiv Kapoor and stars Rishi Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit in the lead roles. The movie deals with the subject of rape and is based on the English novel Tess of the d'Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy.
The movie tells the story of Somen, a rich boy who falls in love with Kajri, a village girl. They get separated and Somen tries to find his lost love. Kajri, meanwhile, is kidnapped and raped by a mysterious man, who leaves her pregnant. She gives birth to a child, who dies soon after. She then meets Somen again, but he rejects her when he learns about her past. Kajri then reveals that the rapist is a powerful man named Roop Sahai, who also raped her aunt. Somen and Kajri then take revenge on Roop Sahai and his accomplice Kedarnath, and finally get married.
