Featured Dog: Roscoe

roscoe2.jpg roscoe.jpg

Needs ASAP foster or adoption!!! He’s entering 3rd month of boarding and receives Heartworm treatment Monday/Tuesday. We’ll provide food & hw/flea preventative.

Roscoe

Roscoe is quite a story. He was abandoned in the backyard when his owner's home was foreclosed on – and even with an owner, he'd pretty much lived on his own in the overgrown backyard for some time. After some fundraising, we were able to secure enough to get Roscoe into boarding, but he sure would love to go home with someone – either as a forever dog, or a foster dog. The kennel staff reports: “He has just come so far! When he first came, he mostly stayed in the outside portion of his indoor/outdoor run. Now he comes up to the kennel door to greet you or take a treat. He also shares his kennel with a very large German Shepherd and they get along fine.” Roscoe feels like he's already pretty lucky to have been upgraded from just a yard to a roof over his head and regular feeding – imagine how grateful he'd be once he were promoted to 'pet'! Roscoe is guessed to be a Flat-Coated Retriever or Border Collie mix; he’s up-to-date on shots and neutered. He will undergo heartworm treatment on August 9/10, and it would be so so nice for him to recover in the comfort of a quiet home. Let us know if you can lend a hand.

The Rest of the Doggie Harmony Crew

All dogs listed are up-to-date with routine shots, flea/heartworm preventative, and spayed/neutered. Those with asterisks (*) need foster homes.

Alma*

Alma is a lovely young lady who's curious, loving and just plain adorable. She's about 5 years old, 55 lbs and absolutely loves walks, running, chasing squirrels and being with people. Alma's a great cuddler and will do anything for treats. She gets along with both dogs and cats. Her favorite things are walks, playing outside, her dog bed, treats and attention...she's a super pooch.

Angel

Angel is every bit as sweet as her name. She is a one-year-old 11-pound Doxie-Miniature Pinscher mix with full tail and floppy ears. Angel is the quintessential lap dog. She wants nothing better than snuggle with you while you watch TV, but if you want to play fetch she enthusiastically obliges. Angel takes her job as guard dog seriously, so you just have to let her know that your neighbor is not trying to break in your house. Angel's foster home came with two built in playmates - an Airedale Terrier and a Wheaten Terrier. Once Angel understood that they were not the enemy, she warmed up rather quickly to her new housemates. Angel without hesitation will initiate a game of tug of war with a dog 5 times her size. She will make a great pet for her forever home. She is housebroken, crate-trained, walks well on her leash and is working on her basic obedience commands.

Beckham*

Sweet 2 1/2 year old Beckham was rescued at the 11th hour from a high-kill county shelter where the staff described how much he enjoyed his brief outside visits – either laying in the sun or kicking up grass with his white-socked feet (hence, his namesake - soccer's David Beckham). He's described as a perfect dog – calm and gets along well with others, even cats. He's approximately 60-lbs. Can't you just picture him lying in the grass at your home or playing a game of soccer with the kids?

Ben*

There's something magical about Ben...he's a hearty fella who enjoys playing with his red rubber ball and jogging, but can then turn into the best snuggle bunny ever, sleeping next to you and staring into your eyes. Ben is 4 1/2 years old, neutered, up to date on his shots and heart guard/flea prevention. He was rescued from a high kill shelter and has blossomed with his love for life. Ben is great with other dogs but due to his background, he can be possessive over his toys and treats. Benjamin does excellently with children 12 and up, adults and even cats! He's a loyal friend, a great running partner, a snuggle bug – he's just a super-special boy who should go to an equally special and loving home. Ben prefers a home without children (< 5 yrs old).

Bernie

Bernie is a slightly special needs guy who was adopted from an Atlanta group that is no longer in operation. He's cute as he can be, and his current owner loves him to pieces, but the home environment no longer fits now that they have a newborn and a second dog. Bernie needs a home with no other dogs and no small children b/c he needs lots of attention. He's 8-yrs young and was born with 3 1/2 legs – his 1/2 leg looks like a cute little chicken wing. He was originally rescued from a puppy mill in South Carolina which explains the birth defect and why he needs to be the center of someone's world. He was not treated as a pet at the mill and was possibly abused by his owner and other dogs. Bernie is a one of kind-guy who needs a five-star home!

Cubby

Cubby belonged to a retired couple who's health prevented them from keeping him, so he's always had a loving home – he just needs to move on to one that's better able to love and care for him. He will be neutered prior to adoption, health-permitting. Cubby weighs just 15 lbs and is good with other dogs and kids. He's just a sweet little old guy who needs a place to retire. He's 9 years young – Bichons live well beyond age 15, so Cubby still has quite a bit of living to do!

Danzig*

Meet Danzig! She's about 2 yrs old and 50 lbs. Her former owners described her as 'needy' which we have found to translate as loves to be hugged and is very generous with kisses. She is great with kids and cats; she's lived with other dogs before, so should be fine with them too. She needs to work with walking nicely on a leash from a new owner who doesn't mind showing her the ropes. Danzig is a big sweetheart who needs someone willing to give her the attention she's been craving and in return, you'll have a loyal mate for life!

Dudley

Handsome Dudley was found running tiredly alongside the road. He's a cute little beagle boy of about 15 lbs and approximately 1-2 yrs old. He is sweet and cute as can be - he just needs some fattening up as it looks like he's been on the road for awhile. Can you find a place for Dudley at your dinner table?

Farrah (See More Pictures)

Farrah is about a year old and was rescued from a life of being tied in the backyard with other dogs. Farrah is looking for someone who can give her positive social interactions and a patient home where she can build her confidence to live carefree. Farrah enjoys playing with other dogs and is submissive to all. Farrah is shy at first, but the more you love and make her feel at home, the more she blossoms into the girl I know and love – a.k.a. lil' miss wiggle butt! She will make a wonderful companion to someone.

Layla

Meet wonderful little Miss Layla. Layla is a 4 month old Lab/Coonhound/shepherd mix that was pulled from death row. She is very playful and gets along well with other dogs and cats. Layla is currently in a foster home where they are training her and she seems to respond well to verbal commands and is starting to learn her boundaries and appropriate vs. inappropriate behavior. Layla loves attention and is very affectionate. She is showing traits of being very loyal and wants to be a part of all that is going on around her. She does need plenty of space to run and toys to play with. Layla is a great companion and will make an excellent addition to any family.

Lexi

Lexi can be summed up in one word – A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E! She is a 4 year old, 60-lb female lab mix. She is as sweet as can be and loves to cuddle. This loving girl would do okay in a home with another dog or children. We are not sure about cats; we have not had her around any. Lexi loves to play with her toys and also loves to just relax and lay around. She can't wait to find her forever home.

Lola*

Lola is a great little dog that's well-socialized with other dogs – she is a regular at doggie daycare. She's not a fan of cats or little kids, but she's very loyal to her master. She's an energetic little lady so she'd make a great exercise partner for someone, or would love her very own fenced yard. Lola is also a great size at approximately 35 lbs – small enough to snuggle, big enough to enjoy outdoor adventures. She is also crate-trained. Lola prefers a home without cats and children (< 5 yrs old).

Louie

Hey, I'm Louie the Lab and I was rescued from a parking lot in Louisville, Ky. (that's how I got my name). I have a dear foster mom and dad along with a great foster brother Poe, he's an old Shepherd that my foster parents rescued from a shelter "just in time.” He's a fun brother and my foster parents are great too, but what I really want is a family of my own with human teenagers to play ball with, to teach me cool tricks, to run with me or take me on long walks. And though I am all DOG, I still adore being loved on! I have so much energy and ability. I want to be all that I know I can be for my forever family. I'll be waiting! Love ~ Louie the LAB (p.s. I love hugs and kisses too). Louie prefers a home without cats and children (< 5 yrs old).

Sasha*

Sasha is a unique and all-adoring dog. She is 5 years old. The words loyal, protective, loving and attentive describe her perfectly as she is an overall amazing friend. Sasha loves her dog bed, her treats and her time with you – which she values above all else. She's every person's "dream dog" and does best in either as an only dog or with one other dog. She'd also do better in a home without small children (< 5 yrs old). as she likes to be the baby herself.

Sweetpea*

Sweetpea showed up at the backdoor of some Good Samaritans in Avondale Estates on one of our coldest evenings. They took her in, fed her, and have provided full-vetting. She is small, young, very friendly with all, including infants, and is litter box-trained. You couldn’t ask for a better housemate!

A Special Thank You from Catfish!

Thank you to everyone who has so generously supported Catfish in his recovery. For the most part, his various worms have been treated – with the exception of heartworm which will have to wait until he’s stronger – and his accident wounds are healing nicely. Most threatening has been the kennel cough/pneumonia – he continues with treatment of both.

As of August 1, the Catfish fund had reached $1,225 – so we’re over halfway in meeting our goal of $2,000. We’re very thankful for everyone’s support and you can continue to track progress at: http://adognamedcatfish.blogspot.com.
