Afternoon everyone,

Just wanted to put out a call for speakers for the upcoming months'
meetings. We have a speaker lined up for November, but we don't have
anyone to present for October, December, or anything after that. Is
anyone interested in their hat into the ring? A presentation doesn't
have to be anything terribly involved; you can show code or a couple
slides, the idea is just to share your experiences or something you've
learned with the group. Based on the poll on the blog, it looks like
there is some interest in having a ColdFusion topic at the group.
Would anyone like to give that a shot? Maybe a tour of some of the
new features in CF9?

Speaking on behalf of the group managers, we've gotten a bit burnt out
on giving the majority of the presentations to the group. We would
really appreciate more community involvement to help us from going too
crazy. To alleviate the stress of preparing content each month, we're
open to suggestions on alternative meeting types, deviating from the
traditional formal presentation, to make things easier. Does anyone
have any suggestions on what they'd like to see?

Please let us know what you think about the group so we can help to
schedule future meetings that y'all would like to attend. Thanks.

-Brian

I can show an AIR app with internal database I've been working on, but
I doubt it will take an hour. Maybe some other person|people could
show stuff they're doing?

That sounds great - we don't need you to fill up the whole hour.

Can you give us a synopsis of the app so we can post it on the blog?

Crap! I just realized the next meeting is on the 5th. I have a
conflict that night... my son's Monday night Challenger football game,
which is the biggest event of their season.

I guess I'll have to do it some other month, unless everyone wants to
have the meeting on a different night.

Sorry,

Greg

That's fine, we can adjust the date. Does October 12th work for you?

Yes, the 12th is fine.

The app takes HL7 data (which is a medical information systems
standard, and quite ugly) and uses a web service I wrote to convert
it to XML. You can then use the AIR app to build an XSLT stylesheet
for converting the data to another format for reporting. The app also
has a database of what each HL7 field is so that you can hover over
the data and tell what it represents. That part is really helpful
because HL7 is basically vertical-bar-delimited text, and trying to
count bars to find the 18th field of the patient visit record is quite
a pain :-)

Ha, hi Greg and Max. I'm literally playing catch-up here and I'm a
complete noob to Google Groups' interface so please bare with me.

Can we adjust the Google Calendar to reflect the meeting getting
pushed to next Monday, Oct 12th. I'm definitely interested in
attending. There are four other developers on my team that I'll ask
to join me. I don't have much time this week to prepare a
presentation for the AIR app I just submitted to Adobe AIR Marketplace
but I can definitely answer some questions on the side and take some
notes during the meeting for possibly a demo in the future.

Is anyone going to be watching the Adobe MAX keynote today? Did
anyone catch yesterday keynote?

I'll be watching the keynote today. Brian LeGros watched it yesterday
and saw some pretty awesome stuff coming out for iPhone cross-
compilation; I'm sure it's all over teh interwebs by now.

Hey guys,

Unfortunately our WordPress account on DraemHost is acting up so I
can't update the blog at the moment, but we are still on for tomorrow
night. The meeting will be in the Physics Lab, which is filled with
computers. I don't have the room number from DeVry, but they usually
put up a sign.

We'll get started at 7 PM as usual. I'm interviewing somebody at 5:30
PM so I probably won't make it to BJs for drinks beforehand, but I
imagine that the crew will show up there as usual for anybody who's
attending the user group meeting.

Thanks,

- max

Thank you for the update, Max. I'll be there and I will be bringing
at least one other person with me. See you there.
