Providing a memorable experience for the user requires a thorough
design, and for a design to be effectively communicated and adhered to
during the development process, it must be well documented. You will
help guide a talented development team in designing and building new
projects. Tasks include spearheading the creative process, developing
initial concepts, providing clear, actionable feedback to external
partners, evaluating deliverables, plus tracking and reporting
progress to all other departments.
You will need high attention to detail, the ability to react assuredly
to changing business parameters, and completing top-quality projects
on time and on budget. You’ll need past experience designing
successful websites, have extensive knowledge in XHTML web
development, XML web development, CSS and Web Standards and knowledge
of validation and document type definitions. You will design and
document an original web concept, beginning with traditional and
creative brainstorming techniques, concept mapping, and outlining.
You will also be proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Fireworks, and
Illustrator, have good design skills and the ability to transfer them
to the web using Web Standards, knowledge of Flash and Flash
integration is helpful as well as knowledge of client-side and server-
side integration.
You will be responsible for the design and development of creative
products and marketing-related content. Also you must have a strong
grasp of designing, developing, and integrating web based customer
facing user interfaces. Must have proven success driving a website
overall creative vision, and working in collaboration with internal
and external teams of programmers, artists, management and producers.
Key Responsibilities Include:
• Drive the web design through all phases, from concept, presentation,
implementation, tuning and release.
• Assist in the design UI screens and support screens.
• Contribute to current and future website concepts.
• Responsible for the quality and timeliness of all creative efforts
on at least one major internal IP, plus creative contributions to
multiple projects.
• Manage rapid prototyping and proof of concept development for
assigned projects.
• Ensure that Sky Parlor Studios products are designed and developed
to meet all established standards for quality, timeliness, budget,
technological objectives, and feature set.
• Keep current on industry knowledge of competitive games, successful
genres, popular 'fun' mechanics, and consumer demographics within the
casual game market. (Web and Platform environments)
• Collaborate with Management on hiring of additional designers,
developers, and artists to fill any openings on your projects.
• Responsible for developing, testing, implementing, and maintaining
web-based ecommerce systems.
• Troubleshoots coding problems and issues and looks for ways to
improve the web based applications.
• Develops and designs interface, front pages, and the tools to
navigate on the website.
• A solid grasp of web design and development and the ability to write/
edit clean, reusable and well-documented code is necessary.
• A wide degree of creativity is expected.
Required Skills
• Have served as senior or lead designer on at least two successful
websites.
• Naturally predisposed toward collaboration, invitation of peer
review, and critiquing others' work in a motivating way.
• A passion for creating high-quality innovative products.
• Able to identify brand extension opportunities.
• Capable of communicating complex web designs clearly and succinctly
to both development teams and internal leadership.
• Excellent organizational skills, and who is self-motivated and eager
to learn.
• Strong Design and Creative skills in web development.
• Someone who continuously takes action to improve their skills
through books, blogs, networking etc.
• Self-motivated and willing to work extra hours and/or inconvenient
times as the job requires
• Strong portfolio with 5+ years’ experience
• Experience leading design creation and implementation, working with
both internal/external dev teams.
• Must possess a high level of ownership, enthusiasm, and
collaborative temperament.
• Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills.
• Must be able to provide samples of design work at multiple phases of
development - concept presentations, WDD's, prototypes etc.
• Knowledge and understanding of recent trends in all areas of web
development (Mobile, Network, Social)
• Proficient with Microsoft Office.
• Needs to have worked in progressively responsible technical roles in
software development and have a strong track record of
accomplishments.
• Substantial subject matter knowledge of applicable technologies with
excellent verbal, written, analytical, teamwork, and communication
skills.
• The candidate needs to possess strong technical problem solving
skills.
• The candidate must be able to address the technical needs of the
staff member and effectively communicate support issues with them.
Technical Knowledge
• JEE (EJB, Servlets, JSP, Struts 2.0, Spring)
• PHP development
• XML, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX,)
• RDBMS Knowledge (MYSQL Server 2005, T-SQL)
• Application Server (SUN-1, Apache, .NET Framework)
• SQL, Data extract/Transform/Load (ETL), Data Warehousing
• Web Services, Representational State Transfer (REST) architecture,
Web Services Description Language (WSDL)
• 3-5 years of full-time professional experience developing ecommerce
websites using PHP/MySQL.
• Photoshop CS3+
Education
• AS/AA in Web Design/Development (10 years professional experience
with this degree needed).
• BS/BE in Computer Science or related business field (5 years
professional experience with this degree needed).
Preferred Skills
• A front-end expert who can take a mockup and build a pixel perfect
version within CSS & HTML.
• MA/MS in Web Design/Development (5 years professional experience
with this degree needed).
• Smart Sheet Application knowledge.
• Photoshop (all facets)
• Must be familiar and comfortable using PS tools to design, create
and package:
o 2D character art / sprites / tiles (top down, 3/4 view, profile
view, isometric)
o Textures for use in 3D models
o HUD / background / menu elements for interfaces
o Flash (drawing/animation tools)
