If you are talking about printing from Adobe Acrobat or Acrobat Reader, this usually has to do with the inability of your print driver to interpret font information given to it by Acrobat, or vector paths. By selecting "Print as image", you are instructing Acrobat to rasterize the entire page--including text and paths--and then to send that raster image to the printer.

Why will some pages in a multi-page document only print if "Print as Image" is checked in the Print Options? The Print as Image pages are not graphics or any different than the rest of the document.
