G4/500/dual/1 gigRAM/booting in OS922/OSX24

When viewing image CD's, why must I quit Photoshop 7.01 in order to eject the CD. If i view a cd in P7 File Browser, then put the CD in the trash from the desktop, P7 says the CD is still busy and I cannot eject it. Can I quit the File Browser without quitting P7?

Well it does not seem to be a problem in OS 10.2.4 you can eject the disk even if you have an image on the disk open whether it is a photo D or a CD with Images on it.

However since you are having this problem I would make sure that I had saved the open image to the hard drive and then I would go to the top of the file browser window and select a a volume other than your CD such as your start up volume and then eject the CD.

Thurgood:

I made sure none of the images were open first, then I tried selecting another drive/folder/file in the File Browser folder hierarchy window, but it still seemed to own/lock onto the cd.

I will try the way you describe Monday when i get back.

There has to be a reason the way P7 acquires the images. I searched for the problem in HELP. Found no answer.

I wonder if "Purge Cache" (last item in the FileBrowser Popout) would help in this case?

How about turning off file sharing when using a PhotoCD or CD with Images. The other thing you can do is to insert a Zip in your
Zip drive when you have the CD inserted.

Yes I think it is related if you have an internal Zip drive it is more than likely in that case that they are on the same IDE chain. This seems to confuse the system, exactly how or why I do not know really know.

If I boot into OS 9.2.2 and try to copy to a ZIP disk I have to have a
CD in the CD drive or I will get a disk error.

What I think happens is that it searches to see if there is a drive to eject since you have accessed the files on the CD it now sees this as an active master drive that is in use even though it is not
in use as it is getting a return from the empty ZIP drive that this is removeable media and there is no media in it and there for the CD must be an non removable media an internal harddrive even though it is not because it is on the same IDE chain and the motherboard does not really support this configuration in that
the Firmware is a bit defective. That is my thoughts on this. Apple knows about the problem I told them about it years ago and they seemed to know it before I even spoke to them.

It's history now. I don't know if this will even help or if it is actaully what is causing the problem. But I like to try and figurre these things out.

YOu can try my suggestion it, let me know if it workds or not.

Thank you for responding. Yes, I thought it might, but it didn't.

HELP!!!!!

Does anyone think this is an OS922 issue? That's what I am booting in by necessity. I used to have trouble erasing Iomega Zip disks when File Sharing was running. Anyone think it's related?????

I think that I have found the answer:

If you have the CD showing in the popup at the top of the Main window in FileBrowser, you canNOT eject the CD.

So, from that Popup menu choose "Desktop" -- THEN you can eject the CD.

It may or may not be relevant that I booted-up the computer, and launched Photoshop, while there were no COs or ZIPs inserted.

[Holding the mouse-button down while you restart automatically ejects the CD.]

SOLVED:

At the top of the File Browser is a file tab.
The file tab at top must be CHANGED to anything but the cd & its contents.
If I change this, THEN the cd will eject.

Thanks to Ann S on the Adobe Forums list.

ps: I'm dancing, I'm dancing.

You are going to exhaust yourself if you keep THAT up until my birthday -- which is 6 months away!

But I am glad that you were able to get it to work anyway.
