I contacted Epson about my problem but they said to contact Adobe, so I'm trying the message board here.

I'm trying to scan a simple 2" x3" image and blow it up 300% at 200dpi but I keep getting the message saying "Scanner could not allocate required memory"...so i bumped up the memory allocation in PS7 up to 312000....and I still get the error. If I turn DESCREENING off...it scans fine, but once I turn on descreening...I get the error about memory allocation again.

Any ideas?

Have you also tried increasing the memory allocation to the scanner software itself?

How much total RAM do you have installed?

I have 1GB of ram in my dual 1ghz cpu G4...and I can't allocate more memory to the scanner software itself...I tried but then Epson told me I couldn't either....its really annoying that I can't simply blow up a scan!!!

which OS? 9,10?

scan the image at 100% and 600ppi.
Then in PS, uncheck the "Resample Image" box, and in the
resolution field, enter 200ppi - OK.

Maybe by scaning it at 100% at the higher res, may help.
Worth a try anyway.

Good idea Cygnus...I'll give that a try!

I'm using Jaguar.

In Jag, you cannot allocate memory to a scanner, so Epson is wrong here.
You can allocate memory in PS memory setting in the Prefs.
With the ram you have I'd allocate 75% (max) and see how that works.

Curious to know which works out for you.

Cheers

In OSX, you change the memory allocation in Photoshop/Preferences/Memory & Image Cache.

In OS 9, you do it through "Get Info."

Rich - that only applies to Classic / OS 9.

And it STILL means that there is a bug in the Epson driver that Epson needs to fix.
(they can start by actually reading the Photoshop and TWAIN SDK)
