I'm wondering who "invented" or created elements, or who has done a lot with it or written books on it. Anyone who comes to mind.

Just a little easter egg. If you go to Help>About Photoshop elements on Win or the Photoshop elements menu >About Photoshop elements on OSX, you get the splash screen, on E1 you see a bunch of names, on E2 you see some patent info, but if you wait a few seconds the list starts scrolling and you'll be treated to literally 100s of names of people who make Photoshop and Elements possible.

ERIC H,
I don't know the hard working people who made Elements available but I certainly am familiar with those who keep it in the limelight...Artists on Grant's Challenges!

There's a guy Scott Kelby who does lots of conferences, but I think
for Photoshop. The main dudes on the masthead are Knoll, Hamburg and
Pawliger, I think. Chris Cox you'll see around a lot. Those will have
lots to do with the program. Some good books by Gregory Georges and
Richard Lynch. Steer clear of Dummies books -- they'll entertain you
for about 30 seconds. Russel Brown.

I've had to use Photoshop Elements cause I can't buy Photoshop with my
post-grad pocketbook. Best thing I found was dpreview.com and some
free tools from here: <http://hiddenelements.com/freetools.html> .
There's a group on yahoogroups for elements:
<http://groups.yahoo.com/group/photoshop_elements/>
Not a lot going on the latter but it has potential.

I disagree to stay clear of dummies books. I previously used very simple digital imaging softwares, and rarely developed my film. Photoshop Elements 2 for Dummies is helping me learn the basic(and numerous) features of PSE2 as I continue to read other PSE2 books and read these discussions. I refer to it often, since I have only been using PSE2 seriously for a short while.

Haven't actually used it myself, but the Elements Dummies book is written by Deke McClelland, who is the author of the Photoshop Bible series and is one of the foremost photoshop gurus out there.

Too many filters and not enough grit in the bible really. Some writers seem to be writers and others really use the programs. I hated using it in PS 101. I meant dummies-type books -- there's too many and theyre all the same. I may like the Georges book because it is Photographically oriented. The Lynch book bacause curves and some other stuff make it Photoshop. There's enough in tutorials on the web and the manual to get you started. Elements isn't like a video game that'll entertain you, it's more like the other way round. If all you learn is to use the brightness/contrast, it won't make you too happy too long. But then that assumes people have my interest.
