I'm trying to chose a layout, and when I click on the one I want it gives me this message.
could not open 'standard2.ai' because the parser module cannot parse the file. What the heck does that mean? Can anybody help me? -Lisa

I read on this forum that I should download and install the parser plugin to repair the problem I had running PhotoDeluxe 3.0 on my Windows 2000 Pro PC. I downloaded this plugin and installed it. That stopped the warning message telling me the program would not run on this OS without the plugin. I can now pull up a photo in a millisecond or two and work on the photo very well. The new problem comes when I try to save the photo. Though I have 47 Gb left on my hard disk, 512 Mb of memory, and a 1.4 Mhz processor, plus have run a system cleanup it takes four or five minutes minimum to save the photo. How do I fix that?

Harry,

This problem is normally caused by a need for you to perform system housekeeping. Use Windows Explorer and go to your "username"\Temp folder and empty it. (in XP that would be C:\Documents & Settings\yourusername\Local Settings\Temp). Then Defrag your working hard drives. You MUST be logged in as the System Administrator not only to install the program, but to use many of the functions of the program (or have the administrator assign you, the user with full administrative rights. Also be sure not to have anything Norton on your system. For most systems Norton is very intrusive to graphic progrmas, particularly from Adobe.

When I start to run Photo Deluxe 3.x on Windows XP a message tells me that I must install the EPS Parser Plug-in to assure proper operation and that I can download the Plug-in from Adobe.com. I have done that, but when I go to open the .exe file to install the Plug in, first I get the same message, i.e., that I must install the very Plug in I am trying to isntall, and if I click continue, I get an error message that "cannot open EPSParser.8by because Adobe Photo Deluxe cannot recognize the file extension."

Can anybody help with this? Thanks.

Angelo,

That wasn't the directions for installing the parser fix. Try this:

You need to download the parser fix from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=933 <http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=933>, read the instructions prior to downloading the "parser.exe" file, but particularly pay attention to where you download the file.

Open Windows Explorer and path to the folder you stored this parser.exe file in. Double click parser.exe. "parser.exe" is a self extracting compressed ZIP file, which contains two files. When you initate the self extraction, these two files will become uncompressed and stored in another folder.

Note where that folder is and it'll probably be in C:\Temp\Adobe folder. The two files that will be extracted are: "Readme.wri" which are the instructions (a bit inadequate). The other file is also named "parser.exe" but it is NOT the same as the first file. It's the installing utility which will automatically remove the EPSParsr.8by file from PhotoDeluxe\Plugins folder and will replace it with a new one of the same name. This is the fix.

Be sure to save either one of the parser.exe files and archive them somewhere in case you ever need to reinstall PhotoDeluxe again. You'd need to do this again.

Now you should be able to open your Templates and use them.

I downloaded and installed the parser update for PhotoDelux HE for Windows XP operating system. I continue to get this message when I boot PhotoDelux: "The program you are trying to run has a plug-in to correct known issues with this version of Windows. You should install the EPS Parser plug-in for Adobe PhotoDeluxe Home Edition 3.x and PhotoDeluxe Business Edition 1.x to ensure proper operation on this version of Windows." I think the parser update may not be for Windows XP. Could this be the problem?

Alton,

That's the parser file update that I used. If you properly installed the updated one, it should be found in your PlugIns folder of PhotoDeluxe as: EPSParsr.8by file and if you right click on it, the modified date should be Nov.10, 1998.

Remember that the parser ONLY fixes your ability to use PhotoDeluxe Templates.

I too, downloaded the parser update, because when I attempt to open PhotoDeluxe, I get the message that Alton refers to. And keep getting it each time I attempt to open the program. I just click continue and PhotoDeluxe opens. I then get as far as opening a photo, displaying it on the screen & clicking on fix photo. At that point, the screen goes entirely black and the system is frozen. I have to turn off my computer & turn it back on to get my desktop back. So I have 2 problems. Why do I continue to get the error message (see Alton's message) when opening PhotoDeluxe and what is causing my system to freeze (go black) when working with a photo??? I have WindowsXP Home Edition. I have done the clean up & do it regularly. I really need to be able to use this program. Help! Thanks!!
