Fonts appears as square in the PDF

I am working with Indesign CS2 file. We work for a publishing company.
In the application file, few pdfs are placed as minis, which were
created using Word and it contains True type fonts.
In the application file, few pdfs are placed as minis, which were
created using Word and it contains True type fonts.
These pdf looks fine when placed in the indesign application file, but
when i try to convert to PDF, either by distilling or export pdf
method, few characters of this pdf appears as square.
Can any one help me in sorting out this.
