Don't export. Print to file and distill separately, which will allow you greater control over every aspect of the PDF creation.

Our newpaper is having problems outputing color made in Pagemaker 7.0. Example: starbursts, screened boxes, and any color text we create. When a .pdf is made of our files the color is either turning to RGB(lab) creating problems for our off-site printing plant.
In Pagemaker 6.5 there is a setting while exporting a .pdf under "control" that allows you to select the color output model choosing either RGB or CMYK. This is not available that we have found in Pagemaker 7.0. Or are we missing it somewhere? It has to be a problem with Pagemaker 7.0 because all of our .pdf settings are correct and have been tested with Pagemaker 6.5 and worked fine. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Yes, we are creating the colors as CMYK process.

Have you checked the job options in distiller? Specifically the color tab.

Yes, we have checked that. We have gone over all the settings. It works fine if we make a .pdf in 6.5 but in 7.0 it doesn't.

We have tried that way of exporting a pdf from Pagemaker 7 as well. It hasn't worked for us either. The problem, as stated before, isn't with the making of the post script file or with the distilling of that file. The problem is with the color setting that we can't seem to find.

If there are any more suggestions, they would be appreciated. There are other publications in the area that aren't using their upgrade of Pagemaker because of this color issue.

Right now we are having to use "Quite a box of tricks" to remove all RGB from our files before sending them to print. That's not a bad thing, it works, but it's a quick fix, not a solution and we run the chance of messing up some of the color.

The only RGB problems we have are with the color created in pagemaker. Anything done in Photoshop turns out fine.

Any other suggestions????

Thanks!!!!!!

How are you creating the colors? Are you creating them as CMYK process?

Printing to Distiller using PM 7.0 will result in RGB colors. It's a bug
and I don't know if it's going to get fixed. You've got to print to a
postscript file using a ppd from a high resolution device (preferrably
one supplied by your printer) and distill that.

I recently upgraded to pagemaker 7.0 from 6.5 When I print from a 6.5 file my colors are lighter, when I print from 7.0 they are darker and not matching my screen. It says the ADISTILL.ppd is not found on the system. Should I re-install everything? I am printing to a Xerox Phaser 7700. THanks

I am having similar problems. In Pagemaker 7.0 the color (especially the blue) is dark as it should be. However, after printing to a .ps file and then distilling, the PDF version of the blue is much lighter. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Check your distiller job option settings. The are probably different from the settings you had previously.
