I purchased a new computer and tried to download the Pagemaker 7.0 software but there is no setup.exe file. I am using Windows XP. I am a novice and very frustrated as I need the software for a job. Any ideas? Thanks!

Just where exactly are you trying to download pagemaker from?

You can download and install PM7 tryout from here:
<http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=34&platform=Windows>
(About 65Mb)

I have the software on a CD. This was an Education version - would that make a difference in being able to download it to another computer? I do have the serial number if that would be of help.

That's not a download, it's an installation.

What exactly are the steps you're taking here.

And under no circumstance should you post a serial number.

What files and folders DO you see on the CD?

I have an educational licence for PM7.

The disk should autoplay, and produce the installation options, just like the commercial version.

If the disk fails to autoplay, the key executable is X:\Autoplay.exe, X: being the CD drive. This will produce the installation screen.

I can get to the autoplay window but when I click on the installation button it will show an hourglass for a couple seconds then just sit there.

When I open the Pagemaker 7.0.2 file in the CD Drive I see the following folders:
_Inst32I
_IsDel
_Setup.dll
_sys1
_user1
_user1.hdr
data1
Data1.hdr
DATA.TAG
Lang
layout
os
Setup (Bitmap Image)
Setup (32 Bit Setup launcher)
Setup (Internet communications Settings)
Setup (configuration Settings)
Setup.lid

Sounds like a faulty or dirty CD. Try copying all the files on the CD to a folder on a local drive (e.g. C:\PM7Installation) and run the installation from there.

The file you want is Setup.exe - 32 Bit Setup launcher by Installshield.

I copied the files on the CD to my hard drive but there was still no installation file. Guess I'm just going to have to purchase a new program. Thanks to everyone for your help!

Take the time to call customer service before throwing $499 down the
toilet, or consider the upgrade to Indesign for $199.

But you listed it before:

When I open the Pagemaker 7.0.2 file in the CD Drive I see the following folders:

_Inst32I
_IsDel
_Setup.dll
_sys1
_user1
_user1.hdr
data1
Data1.hdr
DATA.TAG
Lang
layout
os
Setup (Bitmap Image)
Setup (32 Bit Setup launcher)
Setup (Internet communications Settings)
Setup (configuration Settings)
Setup.lid

The one in bold is the one you want.

> upgrade to Indesign for $199.

Absolutely.

What's wrong with the one we told you about? A new disk would probably
be throwing bad money after good.
