In addition to the CMYK process colors in my Swatches palette, I have two Pantone spot colors. I need to delete one of the Pantones, but the trash icon and the Delete menu option are grayed-out for that swatch. (The other swatches are fine)
I'm in the eleventh hour and need to delete that Pantone swatch. How do I delete that swatch?

How did this color get into the swatch? Imported EPS file?

Have you downloaded and installed the 2.0.1 update?

In the swatches pallet, select all unused. If the color isn't being used
anywhere, you can then delete it.

BTW, having an extra color in the pallet is no big deal. It won't hurt
anything.

Robert,
Thanks for the reply.

The swatch was added through the swatches menu and then choosing the Pantone library. I had then added another Pantone swatch that is the primary color used in my 2-color catalog.

I chose "select all unused", but no swatch is selected. I've gone over the catalog and cannot find any use of the Pantone color I need to delete. Is there a way of finding a color swatch throughout the document?

The reason why I believe I need to delete the Pantone swatch is because I sent the catalog as a PDF to the printer and they can't separate the colors. I've had this issue before: If there are two spot colors listed in the Swatches/Ink Manager, the printer cannot use the PDF. So, that is why I am trying to delete the swatch.

My question is, why is the swatch greyed out? Why can't it be deleted?

Have you updated to ID 2.0.1?

Ron,
This problem has come up many times, and there are several variations on the theme. I have given up trying to delete locked-in swatches. I recommend using the Ink Manager to alias the culprit to a colour that should be in the document. Your swatch palette will still have the extra colour, but your separations list won't.

Bob,
Yes. I have updated to 2.0.1

M Blackburn,
I'm somewhat relieved to hear I'm not the only one. I had considered the "alias" way but wasn't sure how that would affect outcome.

Thanks for your help.

I believe there is an expanation in the support documents of the adobe site that address this issue. Many times, an eps with a color in the swatches pallette that you may not even use gets imported into ID and can not be deleted, despite the fact that it is not used.

To get around it, you can delete the eps, go to the original app where the eps was created, delete the offending color from the swatches pallette, then re-place the eps back in the ID document.

Kathy, You are right.

The problem is this: You need to download and install the "document framework update"

You did that already you say? Well you need to do it again. There was a Document framework update released in June and then another released in August. You most likely need to get the new new document framework update.

It worked for me!

I have downloaded the latest document framework file and still can't delete a spot color. I really need to get rid of it before I can send the file to the printer. I will try to alias but still would like to know if there is any way to search a document for a specific color other than as text. Anybody know if it can be done?

As a stopgap, isn't there a way in ink manager to make this a
non-printing color?

So that way you won't get a extra plate with this phantom spot color?
