I've already checked this board and several other boards to no avail regarding this issue.

Here's what is going on... I'm new to InDesign and average on knowledge of fonts. I have a file I created in Illustrator using a font called Arial MT.

I would like to use this same font (whatever it is) in InDesign, but it is not available in InDesign. The closest font I can come to in InDesign is a font called "Arial Rounded MT Bold".

How come I can use "Arial MT" in Illustrator, but not have it available in InDesign? Does anyone know what the true name of Arial MT is? Illustrator info calls it:

PostScript Name: ArialMT
or
Windows Font Name: Arial MT

Thanks...

What OS are you on? If you use ATM, does the font show up there? Is it in the Adobe common fonts folder?

This has been questioned here recently. Arial and Arial MT are one font. This is a name display thing.

Arial MT is also a font used by Acrobat Reader 5.

_A______.PFB is in the ...Adobe\Acrobat 5.0\Resource\Font directory.

The "MT" part of the name is for Monotype--the company that distributes both versions of the font.

I'm using Win XP Pro and do not have ATM installed. Arial and Arial MT in Illustrator (on my system at least) display differently. Arial MT is rounder than Arial.

I don't know what directory Arial MT is stored in for Illustrator because I don't know the file name for it. I've already searched for a font called "arialmt" or "arial mt" and nothing has come up in the search.

The OpenType Arial that comes with Windows has the filename "arial.ttf". The Type 1 Arial that comes with Acrobat has the filenames "_A______.pfm" and "_A______.pfb". Search for these. I don't know Illustrator that well, so I'm not sure how fonts appear in its menu. Do you see two Arials in Illustrator (Arial MT and Arial) and just the one in ID?

In Illustrator the arial fonts that show up are:

arial
arial black
arial mt
arial narrow
arial rounded mt bold

In InDesign 2.0 the arial fonts that show up are all of those except for "Arial Mt".

If I do a search for the "_A______.pfm" and the "_A______.pfb" fonts, I find them located in three separate directories:

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 5.0\Resource\Font
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts\Reqrd\Base
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\PDFL\5.0\Fonts

I suppose if I removed Acrobat Reader 5.0, it should remove two of the three sets of files, (Reader 5.1 is also installed on my machine, possibly from the InDesign install).

For Illustrator I also found a "ADOIF__.PFB" and "ADOIF__.PFM" in a C:\Program Files\Adobe\Illustrator 8.0\Required\Fonts directory.

Maybe I should get ATM to help me manage all of the locations of these fonts?
